Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass (D-At Large) seeks an energetic and strong writer for the position of Senior Communications and Policy Aide.

Candidates should be able to communicate effectively about a variety of policy issues and have the ability to think creatively and help problem-solve. Candidates should be organized, creative, motivated and must have the ability to write content (including social media, letters, memos and talking points) that accurately convey the Councilmember\'s policy priorities. Candidates must be able to work effectively in a collaborative and dynamic team.

As an at-large member, Councilmember Glass represents 1.1 million residents and is the first openly LGBTQ+ councilmember in the county. Montgomery County is home to three of the most diverse communities in the nation and this position requires the ability to work with a wide and diverse group of constituents.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing social media accounts for an elected official, organization or business; and will have the ability to produce digital media videos that help residents understand public policy from a creative lens. This person will have a passion for making a difference in Montgomery County, a spirit of community service and will be an expert at writing in an active voice.

Role and Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with the Councilmember and Chief of Staff to coordinate media replies, press releases, social media, talking points and other press;
  • Researching legislative issues and drafting memos and letters;
  • Drafting proclamations, certificates and congratulatory letters;
  • Monitoring policy issues related to Education & Culture and Public Safety Committees;
  • Meeting with constituents and working with legislative staff to help connect residents with county, state and other agencies; and
  • Working effectively as part of a collaborative and dynamic team.
Previous communications and/or policy experience required.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office, including some evenings and weekends.

Salary Range: $54,583 to $86,103

This is a Term Position with an end date of December 2, 2024. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon renewal of the term.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research or communications and/or professional level experience in a subject area relevant to local government administration.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor\'s Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
