Hungry World Farm is a nonprofit 175 acre farm that inspires and educates people on the benefits of regenerative agriculture. Our farm is located in Central Illinois about 2 hours west of Chicago along the I80 and the Amtrak line. The beautiful topography includes bluffs, valley, Plow Creek, 75 acres of forest, and over 50 acres of pasture/crops, barns, outbuildings, and a produce packing and storage center. The role of the Education and Outreach Coordinator is to create, coordinate, promote and sell on-farm and on-line educational experiences related to regenerative farming and agriculture. We envision providing a broad range of types of experiences including social media stories, materials in Airbnbs, self-guided tours, farming related workshops and volunteer opportunities. Target audiences likely include the general public, Airbnb guests, church groups, schools, and people who come to the farm for special events like wedding rehearsals, retreats, and Pizza nights. Other types of experiences such as those related to homesteading, permaculture, and health, well-being, and happiness, or even farm business topics could also be integrated into our educational program. This person will work closely with the Market Gardener, Land Program Specialist, Livestock Manager, and other Team members, Board members, and volunteers to make their expertise, operations, and infrastructure appropriately accessible for educational purposes. Ideal Applicants The ideal person for this role is a high energy extrovert with a passion for regenerative agriculture who is great with people in-person and online. The Coordinator will have to be capable of using social media apps (content creation and communication) fluently, and love \xe2\x80\x9cpounding the pavement\xe2\x80\x9d to attract participants and create relationships with people who will assist in creating educational experiences. Good program management skills are a must. The Coordinator will also need a high level of ability to focus their time on activities that produce a high return on investment including financial profitability. We anticipate doing a very low-level of \xe2\x80\x9cfree\xe2\x80\x9d activities unless grant or other donor funding is secured to pay for them. Living on the farm is preferable but not required. This role can start as an Internship, Contractor or part-time role and/or be expanded into full-time as the operations grow. It can also be structured as a Seasonal role as well with activities beginning in April, at a high point during the summer, and then winding up in October. What is your passion?   • Creating or collecting, and organizing educational assets including photos, videos, text descriptions, plan documentation, tour scripts, training materials, and curriculum.
  • Creating and/or coordinating the creation of educational infrastructure for a range of activities from educational materials in AirBnBs, to self-guided tour displays, to locations and equipment for hands-on experiences for groups.
  • Using assets, infrastructure, farm team members, and volunteers to create educational online experiences including website content and social media posts.
  • Creating and coordinating on-farm experiences for visitors including tours (private, group, school field trips), workshops/classes, and field days. *These experiences should be for groups of people who already are coming to the farm (Airbnb or special events guests) as well as other people we want to come to the farm.
  • Planning, recruitment, and coordination of volunteer experiences in cooperation with Market Garden, Land Health, Livestock, Hospitality and other operations. These can be in support of regenerative and farming activities with a high level of hands-on learning or in support of general operations (painting) but should have some sort of educational component.
  • Promotion and communications of all of these opportunities to Airbnb guests, special event (including food) guests, retreat guests, social media followers and audiences, email contacts, schools, churches, service organizations and corporations.
  • Hosting: *As plans for Airbnb and potential camping site guests/program ramp up for next year, this Coordinator could function as the Host for those guests since a major part of their experience should be educational and we want them to turn into customers, volunteers, and donors whenever possible.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree
  • Passion for the benefits of regenerative agriculture to people and ecosystem health
  • Experience designing and leading educational experiences of various types as described above
  • Willingness to \xe2\x80\x9clearn and lead by doing\xe2\x80\x9d
  • Outgoing personality that loves to inspire people and can get them to volunteer.
  • Project coordination and volunteer management experience.
  • Some specific skills - could be gardening, animals, building things, or yoga.
  • Desire and ability to take photos, videos and create social media stories out of them.
  • Must be a fluent user of technology.
  • Some basic graphic design skills are preferred.
Hours
  • This position can be structured as a contractor, Part-Time or Full-Time position depending on skills, interest, and focus.
  • On farm living is a possibility but not required and some remote work is possible.
  • Work hours will fluctuate some on a seasonal, weekly, and daily basis.
  • The EOC is encouraged to pursue a healthy work/life balance and to plan and delegate strategically toward a seasonal rhythm that supports health and good quality of life.
  • The EOC is encouraged to reduce workload some during the winter months of December-February.
  • The EOC can expect to work Mon-Sat with some responsibilities on Sundays as well depending on focus of role during different time periods.
  • This position begins March 1, 2024, but negotiable as some prep work can occur this winter.
  • Annually, 2 weeks total of paid vacation time for Full-Time are offered. A mid-season break is encouraged during July-September.
Compensation
  • This position can be structured as an Internship role, Independent Contractor, full-time or part-time year round, salaried position.
  • Hourly rate and/or Salary range is negotiable depending on type of position.
