Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico\'s dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico\'s arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.
This position directs the editorial activities of the Museum of New Mexico Press, a regional book publisher.
How does it get done?
The position plans and implements all editorial activities to include copyediting, proofreading, project development, and acquisitions.
Who are the customers?
Readers of books in New Mexico, the Southwest and world; bookstores, museum shops, specialty retailers; colleges and schools; public and private libraries; museums; national parks/monuments.
Ideal Candidate
Experience editing scholarly and trade books, including preparation of artwork. Proficiency using Chicago Manual of Style.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor\'s degree and seven (7) years of experience developing and editing books for general (trade) publications. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver\'s License.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
