Description
The editorial director and senior writer is responsible for ensuring the work and story of Fuller Theological Seminary is communicated to all audiences\xe2\x80\x93\xe2\x80\x93current and prospective students, alumni, staff, faculty, and the general public\xe2\x80\x93\xe2\x80\x93in an articulate, cohesive, and responsible way, contributing to the protection and promotion of Fuller\xe2\x80\x99s brand. The editorial director and senior writer provides editing and writing support across the institution and collaborates with the brand, events, website, and content production areas of the Creative Production and Branding Department to produce polished, on-brand copy.


Principal Responsibilities


  • Oversees all written communications coming out of Fuller Seminary, ensuring that copy is concise, adhering to Fuller\xe2\x80\x99s editorial style, and serving to promote and protect the Fuller brand. This may include managing more junior writers and editors, guiding their work to adhere to Fuller\xe2\x80\x99s style and brand

  • Writes and edits Fuller Seminary communications, including advertisements, web copy for Fuller.edu, event programs and emails, internal announcements, and commencement materials. Many of these require partnering with various departments, including the Department of Global Recruitment, Admission, Marketing, and Retention, Public Relations, and Alumni Relations.

  • Acts as copyeditor for FULLER magazine, AlumNews newsletter, development campaign emails, SMT quarterly newsletters, and other communications

  • Writes and edits stories and other copy for FULLER magazine and FULLER studio, including a twice-monthly email that reaches more than 46,000 subscribers

  • Collaborates with the editor-in-chief of FULLER magazine on editorial and production processes, including strategizing themes and content and solving for editorial problems

  • Oversees Translation Manager role and ensures all necessary communications are accessible to Korean and Spanish-speaking audiences

  • Maintains and updates editorial style guide for Fuller, keeping up with Chicago Manual of Style and other publications to move with the times. Communicate editorial style to other departments as needed

  • Writes and maintains faculty profiles for Fuller.edu, and manages a list of new faculty publications for FULLER magazine to promote faculty scholarship



Qualifications

  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • More than five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience writing in a professional setting, including experience in higher education communications

  • Familiarity writing for various purposes, including ads, web copy, press releases, and internal communications

  • Experience developing and maintaining an institutional voice to protect and promote the institution\xe2\x80\x99s brand

  • Experience with Chicago Manual of Style

  • Exceptional copyediting and proofreading abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Wordpress required

  • Ability to develop positive, collaborative relationships with others inside and outside one\xe2\x80\x99s department

  • Preferred: Familiarity with an academic setting, and Fuller in particular

  • Must be willing to abide by Fuller Community Standards
  • This position is offered as a hybrid position primarily working out of the Pasadena, CA campus or a remote position, subject to payroll state approval by Fuller Theological Seminary


Pay Scale
  • Salary range the Seminary expects to pay: $67,000 - $72,000 annually USD
