Job Description


The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group\'s transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Life Sciences team at Innovation Campus Delaware counts 9 full-time researchers & technician and 1 PhD intern, representing 7 different nationalities. We all speak English in the workplace.

The Life Sciences group conducts research activities in several core focus areas with particular emphasis on the use of industrial gases, including cryogenics, in biological/chemical applications. Striving to grow our technology portfolio and forecast new applications for and with our customers, those projects serve many industrial sectors including food, beverages, sustainable agriculture, bio/pharmaceuticals, bioenergy, water and wastewater treatment, as well as hydrometallurgy for metals extraction and recycling.

As a part of the Life Sciences team, you will be involved in developing innovative and sustainable solutions to generate renewable energy in the form of biogas from the anaerobic digestion of waste, and reduce carbon emissions .

You will contribute to this mission by:

Operating a lab-scale biogas system independently (routine system check and preparation of feedstock and nutrient media solutions)

Collecting and analyzing various types of environmental samples (wastewater, biosolids, biogas samples)

Understanding and following the safety culture at Air Liquide. Being proactive in learning new elements during internal training.

Running lab analytical equipment\'s (GC for biogas composition, HPLC for fatty acids, TOC for organic carbon, qPCR for microbial community analysis) as specified by the protocol/test procedures

Supporting the design and implementation of a new scaled-up biogas system

Identifying and troubleshooting problems, when needed, with self-initiative or support from mentor

Leading lab data analysis (recording, organizing and evaluating experimental data and maintaining lab notebook/data sheets)

Writing internal technical research reports to capture project results and know-how

Performing literature and patent searches for ideation

Working in close collaboration with Biogas Project Managers, across Air Liquide innovation campuses (Delaware, Paris, Frankfurt), internal stakeholders (e.g. Operations), and academic partners (e.g. University of Delaware).

Presenting results to stakeholders periodically, and establishing a reputation for the quality and timeliness of technical communications



Are you a MATCH?

Education:

Degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering

Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred

Specialization in biological wastewater or biogas processes

Expectations:

Knowledge of overall wastewater/biogas processes and environmental microbiology

Previous work experience (min. 52 weeks) in operating standard laboratory instruments to analyze wastewater and biogas samples

Knowledge/experience with techno-economic analysis and life cycle analysis of bioenergy processes is a plus

Independent, diligent and reliable (including working 1 - 2 hours on weekends during the system operation)

Ability and willingness to learn new skills

Strong interpersonal skills and cooperative mindset

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Languages:

Fluency in English is a Must have
