SUMMARY

The Vice President Finance is responsible for the accounting and fiscal areas of service within the Youth Ranches, including all functions of the accounting department, planned gift administration, coordinating the handling of agency investments (investment accounts, investment property and money management), providing tax research as needed, and coordinating the external audit. The Vice President Finance plays a key role in providing support and technical advice to other departments within the Youth Ranches. The Vice President Finance is directly responsible to the President and is a member of the Main Office administrative team. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Supervises the agency\xe2\x80\x99s accounting and financial control systems, including the system for recording and safeguarding the physical operating assets of the agency.
  • Supervises and/or prepares financial statements, reports, and analyses and presents periodic financial updates to the President, Department Heads, Board Committees and Board of Directors.
  • Manages cash flow to ensure adequate cash on hand for current expenditures while ensuring that funds not needed for immediate use are invested in interest-bearing accounts.
  • Coordinates the annual budget process, prepares budget document and supporting analytical data for presentation to the Board of Directors. Provides oversight and compliance reporting for ongoing implementation of the budget.
  • Administers the special funds (Gift Annuity, Pooled Income, Endowment, Restricted) in accordance with contracts, legal and tax requirements, covenants and agreements established by donors, agency practices and procedures.
  • Administers the ongoing inventory of Estates currently in probate and Trusts from notification to termination. Serves as designated fiduciary for those estates and trusts where FSYR is named fiduciary.
  • Works closely with CapTrust Financial Advisors to monitor investment performance of investment managers providing periodic reports to the President, Department Heads, and Board Investment Committee.
  • Manages inventory of donated real estate from acquisition to sale.
  • Coordinates the external audit and provides analyses and work papers to the auditors as requested.
  • Ensures that areas under supervision are oriented toward and focused on customer service and user-friendly processes while providing appropriate safeguards and controls.
  • Provides risk management oversight for all assigned areas of supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must have a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Accounting or Finance. Experience in Trust and Estate Administration, Investment monitoring and accounting, and a working knowledge of Estate and Gift Taxation is required. CPA is preferred. Knowledge of fund accounting in a not-for-profit environment is highly desirable. Working knowledge of Blackbaud proprietary software Raisers Edge and Financial Edge preferred.
