The Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services (PCS) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) serves at the executive level in the Medical Center and assumes an active leadership role with the hospital\'s governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management and other clinical leaders in the hospital\'s decision-making structure. Under the direction of the President, the SVP Patient Care Services, CNO is responsible for the clinical and managerial operations of the division of patient care services, including Nursing, Social Work, Impatient Rehabilitation Services, Respiratory Care, Spiritual Care and Interpreters. In collaboration with clinical leadership and departmental administration, sets the strategic direction and ensures effective and efficient operations, allocates resources to promote growth and expansion of services, monitors and improves access to services and ensures compliance with all regulatory and payer requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for the provision of nursing services 24 hrs/day 7 days per week and ensures the highest professional standards for the nursing service. Establishes guidelines for the delivery of nursing care, treatment and services and provides oversight for nursing policy and procedure approval. (essential)

Ensures effectiveness of nursing staffing plans and represents BIDMC nursing to external professional organizations and establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with schools of nursing. (essential)

Ensures hiring of a diverse and talented workforce. Responsible for ensuring timely and constructive feedback to all employees through ongoing mentoring, and timely completion of annual performance evaluations. Ensures a safe and supportive workplace through leadership in initiatives to prevent employee injuries and other employee safety and support initiatives. (essential)

Leads the annual budgeting process within PCS and in collaboration with Clinical Departments, ensuring effective allocation of resources for patient care. Assesses capital needs for facilities and equipment within PCS and Clinical Departments, and presents these needs to senior leadership, and provides oversight for implementation of an approved facilities development and equipment acquisition. Works with department directors and managers to meet organizational financial goals, and implements mid-course adjustments as needed based on changes in volume, reimbursement expectations or other healthcare environment or economic changes. (essential)

Provides leadership for ongoing improvement in clinical quality and patient safety, including but not limited to implementation of National Patient Safety Standards. Remains current on developing trends in quality improvement and patient safety and implements clinical best practices. (essential)

Is skilled in application of tools for process improvement application of tools for process improvement including but not limited to LEAN engineering principles and ensures the development of those skills by department directors and managers. Is accountable for ensuring a high-quality patient and family centered care experience. (essential)

Ensures continuous compliance with all regulatory bodies, including but not limited to The Joint Commission, CMS and Department of Public Health. (essential)

Has the responsibility to lead and support managers and directors in developing and improving operations to create optimal performance levels. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: More than 100

Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring and managing budgets for a center, institution or vice-presidential unit.

Additional Responsibilities:

Responsible for review and approval of Medical Center\'s operating and capital budgets prior to their submission to Finance Committee of the Board.

Required Qualifications:

Master\'s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Finance or Hospital Administration required.

Doctoral Degree Preferred. (DNP or PhD)

License Registered Nurse required.

More than 10 years related work experience required and more than 10 years supervisory/management experience required.

High level comprehension of Finance and Accounting and the ability to manage both capital and operating budgets of a complex nature.

Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas.

Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the workday do not compromise the work.

Work requires constant response to changing circumstances and using new information to adjust approach and to quickly respond to new needs.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.
