JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Director of Student-Led Engagement is a dedicated, passionate, and motivational leader, who inspires and works well with students, colleagues, alumni, and community partners to embrace the mission of Emory University and Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) by collaborating to better the world through our service-learning and community engagement programs.
  • This position plays an instrumental role in the daily management and execution of programs and services, including, but not limited to logistics and communications in the student-led engagement area.
  • The position works full-time in the CCE office, but will also spend significant time, as needed, across campus and in the community.
  • This position reports to the Senior Director of Civic and Community Engagement.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Leads the Student-led Community Engagement area and provides strategic planning, visioning, financial management, and innovation for the area - specifically focused on reflection, professional development (professional staff and students), student leadership development, innovation, sustainability, growth, and connection to other offices within Campus Life and collaborators across the university.
    • The area includes Volunteer Emory, with its Days of Service, Alternative Breaks, Weekly Service Trips, Community Connection events, and Social Justice Education team, as well as SHINE: Education. Engagement. Partnership.
    • Emory\'s premier engagement program with the refugee, immigrant, and new American communities in metro Atlanta as well as other project-based student group collaborations and support.
    • Serves on the Leadership Team for the Center for Civic and Community Engagement (CCE).
    • Represents Emory, Campus Life, and CCE in various campus, community, state, and national settings, when needed and approved by supervisor.
    • Additionally, attends 1:1, staff, ECL, and other University related meetings and events related to the position.
    • Develops and maintains systems to deliver programs and services effectively and safely, while considering and leading innovations and improvements in programming.
    • Maintains and develops strong relationships and open communications with all stakeholders (students, staff, alumni, faculty, and community partners).
    • Supports stakeholders through site visits, meetings, email, phone, and other communications.
    • Coordinates and manages the Emory Civic and Community Engagement Roundtable, including coordination of and participation on the Steering Committee (in collaboration with colleagues in other Emory offices).
    • Serves as a lead manager for Emory OPEN, a software solution to manage, track, report, and assess civic and community engagement activities enterprise-wide for the entire University, including serving on the Steering Committee.
    • Participates in the Emory Cares/Volunteering steering group of the Emory Alumni Association, central Human Resources, and the Office of Government and Community Affairs; builds on existing collaborations with advancement and alumni affairs focused on their Emory Cares brand.
    • Participates in the Atlanta Coalition group comprised of the Emory Alumni Association, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Office of Government and Community Affairs, and the Center for Civic and Community Engagement.
    • Assists with grant, development, and alumni outreach opportunities.
    • Keeps apprised of best practices in the field (e.g., student affairs, student-development, community engagement, assessment, diversity/inclusion, online platforms, and leadership development) and technological innovations as related to the position, and makes recommendations on process improvements.
    • Develops regular reports and communications to assist with the promotion, understanding, assessment, and support of the area and the CCE.
    • Serves on university-wide committees and national committees as appropriate and needed.
    • Supervises staff positions; supervises and mentors graduate assistants.
    • Supervisory duties will also include student workers and student volunteers.
    • Serves as needed on the Steering Committee for The Research University Civic and Community Engagement Network (TRUCEN), and also participates in TRUCEN and Campus Compact working groups and communities of practice.
    • Actively participates in Campus Compact on behalf of Emory.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master\'s degree or higher with strong academic record, and five years of relevant professional work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Meaningful experience doing community engagement and service learning work, particularly in under-resourced communities, managing student organizations, large-scale event planning, student programming, and advising.
  • Fluency in computer skills, including Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, and other internet-based programs.
