Job Description



The director will play a key role in the institutional student success strategy by ensuring the Lemonis Center for Student Success (LCSS) offers students frictionless access to comprehensive academic support tailored to each stage of their journeys at Marquette. Located in a newly designed space in the campus library, the LCSS will be home to anchor programs that include tutoring, academic coaching, career services, experiential learning, and inclusive excellence. The director will collaborate with colleagues from these programs and other student-serving partners to develop and offer programming that supports students on their academic journeys. The director will be someone who understands that centering diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to engendering a sense of belonging and will build relationships with students by being present and visible in the LCSS.A champion for students, the director will help students to develop their fullest capacities as human beings in a Catholic, Jesuit tradition of forming \xe2\x80\x9cpersons with and for others.\xe2\x80\x9d The director will be committed to creating an intentionally inclusive culture in the Lemonis Center for Student Success to support all student populations and address historical equity gaps experienced by underserved groups. The Director will collaborate with faculty and staff across campus \xe2\x80\x93 including the Raynor Memorial Libraries, academic cohort programs, colleges, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion \xe2\x80\x93 to ensure that the Lemonis Center for Student Success fulfills its function as a hub connecting students to a campuswide network of support. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Student Success, the director will lead the implementation of LCSS strategic goals in support of the institutional student success strategy to promote the flourishing of all students.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Student Success and Student Success Coordinating Committee to create a vision for center and execute through planning, programming, and staff development that is aligned with student success initiative
2. Responsible for the leadership of staff employee(s) to include but not limited to hiring, terming, discplinary actions, performance management, etc. Responsible also for overseeing Navigator Programming
3. Oversee hiring, professional development and training of LCCS associate director and Navigator program
4. In coordination with directors of LCCS offices (e.g., OSES, Career, OIDI, Experiential learning), ensure comprehensive support for students from first day to first destination
5. Identify and track key performance indicators of LCSS programs and services
6. Regular communication and collaboration with Wellness and Recreation programs, Academic Engagement Network, Division of Student Affairs, Academic Cohort Programming, Raynor Memorial Libraries, and academic programming
7. Develop publicity and marketing materials for the center including website
8. Establish and maintain Advisory Boards (student, faculty, and academic cohort staff) for the LCSS
9. Oversee budget and operations for LCSS specific programming and staff needs in conjunction with the VPAA
10. Develop and assess the staff and services of the Academic Help Desk
11. Advocate for and build relationships with students by being present and visible in the LCSS
12. Work to create an intentionally inclusive culture in the Lemonis Center for Student Success to support all student populations and address historical equity gaps experienced by underserved groups
13. Participate in SPARK and New Student Orientation programming for new students and parents to introduce the LCSS to these populations
14. Provide on-site supervision for selected evening and weekend events
15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related discipline


5 years post-master\xe2\x80\x99s degree of progressively increasing responsibility for supporting student academic success.

Demonstrated engagement with students to support their holistic needs on their path to graduation and first destination.

Demonstrated record of implementing student success efforts that improved outcomes for historically underrepresented students.

Demonstrated success leading and/or supervising staff in inclusive, diverse organizations.

Ability to demonstrate the qualities of compassion, empathy, and openness, while utilizing excellent active listening and communication skills.

Student-centered with the ability to build an equitable and inclusive community.

Data literacy: the ability to utilize key data systems across campus to identify student needs, assess appropriate interventions to address such needs, and ongoing analysis of equity gaps.

Demonstrated effective relationship-building skills that will serve the incumbent in supervising and motivating staff to work effectively and cooperatively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Knowledge of and a proven track record managing projects and event planning.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills: Active listener with ability to uncover needs.

High level of curiosity to facilitate questioning; Ability to produce and present professional presentations; Values open communication, transparency, and humility.

Understanding and commitment to the goals and mission of Marquette as a Jesuit Catholic university. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expansive record of student advocacy.

Demonstrated experience with support program assessment.

Ability to communicate in multiple languages.
