Overview

The ASPIRE NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Utah State University (USU) has an immediate opening for a Student Engagement Coordinator (Program Coordinator Senior). As a university research center, the ultimate success of ASPIRE resides in the success of its people and their impact on society. This position supports the culture of the center, a culture in which all can thrive and achieve their human potential. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity of joining an outstanding leadership team made up of world experts across multiple universities with a common vision of improving quality of life through development of intelligent and electrified transportation systems. The position will have a primary focus on supporting the students of ASPIRE while engaging with a diverse group of participants from student candidates to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, industry and community partners, and research, engineering, and program staff.

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.

Responsibilities

  • Student engagement: Work closely with and directly support the ASPIRE wide Student Leadership Council (SLC) and the ASPIRE Student Associations (ASAs) on each campus; know the students by name and help them develop and achieve their personal and professional goals; similarly, know all researchers, engineering and program staff, and early-career faculty members and support their personal and professional development; develop and oversee peer mentoring programs.
  • Activity development: Support and develop programs and activities to enhance the experience for ASPIRE students and to improve the diversity and strength of applicant pools; lead and attend the student cohort travel program (where student leaders and ambassadors travel to ASPIRE campuses, national labs, government agencies, and industry); support SLC and ASA student organized activities, community engagement events, and team building and training exercises; provide the \xe2\x80\x9cfun factor\xe2\x80\x9d to get everyone engaged in the center\xe2\x80\x99s programs and enjoying their work and study environment.
  • Data collection, tracking, assessment, evaluation: Support implementation of assessment and evaluation in the center\xe2\x80\x99s continuous improvement process in areas related to the students and their success; support processes, data collection and feedback as part of onboarding and offboarding of students, track details on participants including students and their progress, status and touch points in the center\xe2\x80\x99s programs.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a related field plus four years of experience; or a master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field plus two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience cultivating positive and inclusive culture in academic and/or professional environments with diverse participants.
  • Experience developing, leading, and improving activities and related team building programs and training to enhance the experience for diverse participants in academic and/or professional environments.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and experiences including team building, conflict resolution, problem solving, active listening, verbal and written communication, and service orientation.
  • Experience working with student groups or associations in academic programs, including activities and community events.
  • Experience communicating and working with industry partners and stakeholders for event planning, internships, employment, and student programs.

The NSF Engineering Research Center for Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE) was established in 2020 with funding from NSF, DOE, DOT and additional federal and state agencies and industry partners. ASPIRE is the first of its kind in the world to take a holistic approach to eliminating range and charging as barriers for electrifying all vehicle classes, from passenger cars to heavy duty trucks. The approach is to pursue innovative wireless and plug-in charging and infrastructure solutions that bring the power to the vehicles\xe2\x80\x94where they drive and park. EV users will no longer be concerned with when, where, or how they will charge, and EVs will be less expensive to purchase and operate than their gasoline and diesel counterparts.

Headquartered at USU, the center has more than 400 participants across 10 university campuses and global partnership with more than 60 industry and innovation partners in the related automotive, transportation, and electric utility industries.
