Job Responsibilities

South Carolina Rural Technical College Consortium (SCRTCC)

Colleges included in the SCRTCC include Northeastern Technical College (NETC), Denmark Technical College (DTC), and Williamsburg Technical College (WTC).

The SCRTCC has identified groups of students that experience persistent personal, program, and institutional barriers to enrollment, persistence, completion, and placement. Through an equity gap analysis, the three technical colleges in the consortium identified these student groups, who they call \xe2\x80\x9cinvisible students.\xe2\x80\x9d The SCRTCC will develop and deliver evidence-based strategies that have been successful in addressing gaps for these student populations, including industry-aligned short-term stackable certificates, work-based learning, and support services. The SCRTCC will address the needs of \xe2\x80\x9cinvisible students\xe2\x80\x9d in education and training pathways in Healthcare and Advanced Manufacturing. This project will demonstrate how a rural education and training ecosystem can address equity gaps to create successful outcomes for populations of \xe2\x80\x9cinvisible students\'\' while also meeting talent needs of regional employers.

Responsibilities of Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

NETC is seeking a Outreach and Engagement Coordinator to support the growth and operation of NETC through a comprehensive program of public relations and college-wide communications activities including external media relations and internal college communications to support the college\'s brand of higher education.

  • Writes and prepares press releases, national articles, case studies, event promotions, feature stories, and media alerts for release to the mass media. Reviews all presentations for consistent college branding.
  • Responsible for the development and promotion of college-wide annual communications plan, including multimedia approach timeline, and implementation. Works with Marketing Coordinator, vendors, firms, contractors, and/or part-time staff to ensure strategic coordination and implementation of all coordination/PR efforts.
  • Responsible for written content designed for internal and external college communications to include monthly electronic newsletters, quarterly/annual print pieces, brochures, pamphlets, and catalogs.
  • Assists with social media content (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat), email content (Constant Contact), digital signature contents and updates (Watchfire), and robocalls/text content and updates (ReGroup).
  • Provides coverage of community/outreach/students/faculty/staff events including photography needs.
  • Develops scripts for video production, TV, radio, and content for the college website, social media, and other digital forms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor\'s degree in a related field. Must have a valid driver\'s license.

NETC Preferred Requirements: A bachelor\'s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing and two (2) years of experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media applications. Knowledge of journalistic principles of disseminating information to the public through news media, methods, and techniques using in planning, composing, and editing both print and digital publications. Ability to conduct interviews/research and present oral and written information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.

Additional Comments

This is a temporary grant position. The funding period for the grant begins 01/01/2023 and ends 12/31/2026.

The employee must have excellent organizational skills and have initiative to carry out assigned and unassigned public relations and internal communications that meet strict deadlines under general supervision. The ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team is necessary to the function of this position. Some overnight travel may be required to attend professional conferences and peer group meetings.

NETC is a qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time at NETC. To qualify for PSLF, you must:
  • be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization (federal service includes U.S. military service)
  • work full-time for that agency or organization
  • have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan)
