The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) serves, protects, and supports the people of California experiencing need in ways that empower well-being and disrupt systemic inequities. The Human Resource Services Branch (HRSB) partners with our employees, our managers, and supervisors to select, hire, develop, and maintain the best professional workforce in state service. The Performance Management Unit provides assistance and consultation to divisions, branches, and unit management, including detailed advice and technical guidance to managers and supervisors regarding the most complex and sensitive personnel issues, personnel policy, employee performance management, progressive discipline, and non-punitive actions.
The HRSB is seeking applicants with Human Resource experience and who possess strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and detail-oriented skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to work in a fast-paced office, and perform multiple tasks with accuracy. Under the general direction of the Performance Management Unit Chief, Staff Services Manager II (SSM II), the Performance Management Staff Service Manager I (Specialist) is responsible for serving as a lead to analysts; assists with planning, organizing, and directing the activities for the Performance Management Unit (PMU). The PMU manages Department-wide performance management, progressive discipline, case management and other advanced personnel work. This includes training Department supervisors on performance management, monitoring compliance, drafting personnel actions, and providing expert guidance to managers.
