Description:Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing a new flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The flow battery is based on a novel battery chemistry comprising aqueous metal-ligand coordination compounds. We are seeking a Sr. Staff Scientist to contribute to flow battery technology development. In this exciting role the Staff Scientist will have the opportunity to work closely with an interdisciplinary team of chemists and other engineering disciplines.

Elements of job scope will include:
-Detailed characterization of flow battery chemistry to develop understanding of reactivity/ stability as a function of battery operational parameters (e.g. pH, state-of-charge, temperature, etc).
-Leadership of root cause/ correct action (RCCA) investigations to improve battery system performance/ durability, with a particular focus on control of battery chemistry reactivity and stability.
-Lead the development of a materials compatibility program to facilitate evaluation of battery stack and system BOP materials with battery electrolytes (and vice versa) across battery operational states.
-Through interface with Systems Engineering and other engineering functions, lead efforts to drive recommended technology and/or process changes into product design and/or operations.
-Consult with Systems Engineering on the development of product requirements, as needed, especially as they relate to the battery chemistry and control of reactivity.
-Regular presentation of results to the technical community, program leadership, and senior management.
-Future efforts may include development of novel battery materials and flow battery electrolytes.
-The scientist will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced team members and attend industry conferences to keep up-to-date on related industry best practices and technological advancements

The Locale: Andover Massachusetts is a charming suburb of Boston located about 25 miles northwest of that city. Andover is very close to historic Lowell Massachusetts and to Salem, New Hampshire. Andover is within reach of New Hampshire\'s White Mountains and awesome ski areas to the north, and the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH which lie about 45 minutes to the east. This scenic colonial region offers lots of New England charm, great schools, shopping, and restaurants. Andover and the region share an impressive past from the early days after the pilgrims arrived in Plymouth to the revolutionary war. Where can you get to from Andover? Andover is about 90 minutes from Cape Cod. Boston is about 30 minutes to the south without traffic. New York City is about 4.5 hours away from Andover. Waterville Valley and other major ski resorts of New Hampshire and Vermont are about 2 to 3 hours to the north. It should be noted that Andover, Massachusetts is approximately 25 miles north of the Boston metropolitan area and offers better access to a wide range of substantially more affordable regions in the area to live. Those regions include Northeastern and North Central Massachusetts, and Southern, New Hampshire.

Basic Qualifications:
-PhD in a field of chemistry or chemical engineering.
-10+ yrs experience in industrial chemistry or chemical engineering product development.
-Expert-level understanding of mechanisms of both organic and inorganic chemical reactivity.
-Ability to work in the lab as an individual contributor and as a leader of teams.
Desired Skills:
-Experience in electrochemical product development (flow battery, fuel cell, or electrochemical process).
-Experience working in cross-functional engineering and science teams. Ability to summarize and translate key learnings in chemistry to the non-expert.
-Experience in writing product requirements for chemical-based systems.
-Experience in leading materials compatibility & testing programs.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
