Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing a new flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The flow battery is based on a novel battery chemistry comprising aqueous metal-ligand coordination compounds.
We are seeking a senior Process Chemist / Process Engineer to lead the development of manufacture of our flow battery electrolytes that meet cost and performance goals for successful flow battery commercialization. Initial efforts will focus on optimization of the existing batch-based process to increase throughput and reduce cost. In parallel, the successful candidate will lead an effort to characterize reaction kinetics and oversee engineering development to translate the batch process to continuous, while using production and plant cost models to demonstrate progress towards plant capital and electrolyte unit cost goals.
Additional parallel efforts may include design of novel synthetic and/or purification routes. Future efforts may include development of novel battery materials and flow battery electrolytes to enable further reduction in flow battery system cost and/ or improvements in system performance/ durability.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in scale-up of novel chemical production processes with a demonstrated ability to achieve design-to-cost goals. The ability to design experiments. Source, and manage sub-contractors to generate process data needed for the design of equipment and unit operations at scale is expected. Experience with fine chemicals and solids handling, at scale, is required.
In this exciting role the Sr. Process Chemist will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of chemists and chemical engineers in technology development and scaleup. They will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced team members and attend industry conferences to keep up-to-date on related industry best practices and technological advancements We offer a continuous learning environment with strong career growth and advancement opportunities.
Relocation: Relocation assistance is possible for this exciting position.
The Locale: Andover Massachusetts is a charming suburb of Boston located about 25 miles northwest of that city. Andover is very close to historic Lowell Massachusetts and to Salem, New Hampshire. Andover is within reach of New Hampshire\'s White Mountains and awesome ski areas to the north, and the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH which lie about 45 minutes to the east. This scenic colonial region offers lots of New England charm, great schools, shopping, and restaurants.
