In addition to competitive compensation and benefits, we also believe in providing our employee-owners opportunities to advance their careers and accelerate their individual growth - both personally and professionally The Custom Solutions Group (CSG) Sales Engineer is responsible for technical support of new project sales opportunities engineering a value-based integration solution for customer applications. This person works in tandem with the Program Manager, the CSG post-sale Application Engineer and the Integration Service Manager to develop detailed submittal documentation, system drawings and schematics, specifies bills of material, writes scopes of work and assembly instructions, interfaces with suppliers to create costing and pricing proposals, organizes, and implements other critical tasks relating to specific projects and functions for the term of the project.

Reporting Relationship: The Sales Engineer reports to the Vice President, National Distribution Sales.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Reads engineering and compliance documentation, electrical one-lines and specifications to develop product BOM and to define SOW.
  • Works in conjunction with the Program Manager to define customer requirements and develop appropriate, value-based solution.
  • Provides application engineering support as needed maximizing customer value to drive earned profit margins.
  • Identifies the project team for each order and establishes roles and accountabilities.
  • Facilitates the hand off between pre-sales and post-sales engineering by reviewing orders and necessary technical documentation as necessary so that drawings and manufacturing time can be scheduled.
  • Coordinates project communications between all functional groups.
  • Contributes to company initiative supporting current ETL/UL508A certification, standard compliance, and periodic inspection. Participates in certification projects for future capabilities.
  • Using available sales tools (Bidman, manufacturer\'s pricing guides, OEM project quotation) develops project costing for all related inputs- products, materials, labor, OEM services, transportation and logistics, other project specific costing as required.
  • Uses and improves the CSG Project Worksheet and BOM documents.
  • Works in conjunction with the Program Manager to prepare:
    • Detailed solution specification and description.
    • Supports creation of unique system assembly number
    • Pricing quote and proposal language.
    • Submittal including commercial and technical product documentation- manufacturer\'s collateral material, cut-sheets, user and installation manuals, other as required.
    • Creates and compiles drawings- OEM standard or project specific approval drawings, project specific elevation and one-line drawings.
    • Other project specific documentation and information as required.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as necessary

Skills/Knowledge:
  • Strong electrical aptitude and knowledge of best practices for electrical system assembly
  • Strong knowledge of AC and DC power equipment and battery systems
  • Knowledge of NEC codes and NFPA standards
  • Experience in related segments, industry/manufacturing, telecommunications, Electrical switchgear & control, and UPS
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Ability to create detailed assembly drawings and wiring diagrams / schematics
    • Solidworks or AutoCAD
  • Strong technical and spatial reasoning abilities
  • Proven experience successfully managing projects on time and on budget
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to manage multiple projects at once and prioritize necessary tasks

Qualifications:
  • 4 yr. college degree, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred or related practical industry experience
  • Proven experience managing projects on time and on budget
  • Desired knowledge of UPS and power distribution products and familiarity with complementary and competitive products
  • Desired knowledge of project management software, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks/AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical
