Job Description




Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, this position designs and implements communication and outreach efforts to ~7,000+ alumni to actively encourage engagement with the School of Veterinary Medicine through philanthropic support, event attendance, volunteerism, and other forms of participation.

The Alumni Outreach and Communications Coordinator leads efforts to create and sustain high value connections for alumni and friends across the state, country, and around the world. In consultation with school leadership, the Coordinator develops outreach and communication programs to facilitate lifelong dialogue between the school and its constituents to increase alumni participation and giving. These include but are not limited to Alumni newsletters, web and social media updates, telephone outreach, event communication strategy and content, student and alumni networking programs, stewardship of alumni support and campaigns, working in consistent partnership with the School\xe2\x80\x99s communications team.

This position is responsible for keeping alumni records and contact information up to date, managing archival and historical information about the school, its alumni, faculty emeriti, former residents and friends. Identify, research, cultivate, and/or steward alumni donors and make recommendations for those who should be managed as major gift donor prospects. Help to raise annual philanthropic support for the School through alumni networks, ongoing fundraising campaigns, and reunion giving. Serve as the primary expert and support for the school\xe2\x80\x99s alumni class campaigns.

This position develops and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships and programs with UC Davis and the School of Veterinary Medicine units; in particular with the Office of Admissions and Student Programs, Career, Leadership and Wellness (CLAW), Professional Education, the Office of Research and Graduate Education and academic departments.

QUALIFICATIONS



Required
:
  • At least three years of successful and progressive experience in communications, advancement, alumni relations, marketing, annual giving, or a comparable role that includes an acknowledged work history showing creative productivity is required.

  • Experience using organizational, time management and problem-solving skills to follow multi-stage projects through to completion, and to handle difficult, sensitive and/or confidential issues, and meet deadlines.

  • Extensive experience developing program messaging through written, verbal, and interpersonal communications that communicate the School\xe2\x80\x99s mission and vision to inspire deeper alumni involvement.
  • Thorough knowledge of designing and executing cultivation, stewardship and engagement events and alumni relations programs.

  • Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with alumni, internal and key constituencies.

  • Skill in project management, including event planning and meeting deadlines.

  • Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identify real and potential problems, advising management as required, proposing effective strategic resolutions, and managing budgets and tracking expenditures.



Preferred
:
  • Skill and experience in building rapport and establishing cooperative working relationships with donors, colleagues and external partners.

  • Experience providing \xe2\x80\x9cgold-standard\xe2\x80\x9d customer service to diverse populations.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, MS Office including Outlook, Excel and Teams; Adobe In-Design, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva.

  • Knowledge of CRMs, event and email marketing systems (Constant Contact, Aventri) and web platform (SiteFarm) (University experience preferred).
