: The Medical Director of Gynecology provides leadership and strategic medical direction for Gynecology (GYN) within Intermountain Canyons Region, to advance performance in each of Intermountain Healthcare\'s Fundamentals of Extraordinary Care. The Medical Director of GYN will champion provider growth and development, innovation, continuous improvement, and is accountable to achieve region-wide GYN-related goals.

Intermountain Canyons Region encompasses locations in Idaho, Western Wyoming, Northern and Central Utah. It is anticipated that the Medical Director of Gynecology will provide leadership responsibilities at a .5 FTE. Their remaining .5 FTE will be spent providing clinical care in a facility within our Region\'s geography

Scope

The Medical Director for GYN is a region-wide leadership role reporting to the Chair/Senior Medical Director (\'SMD\') of Women\'s Health with overall accountability for leading a holistic approach to women\'s care across a range of specialties; general gynecology (including adolescent, menopausal and office procedures), benign gyn surgery, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology and gyn oncology. The Medical Director is responsible for several core areas: 1) Clinical leadership for the system\'s gynecology clinicians. 2) Strategic leadership and management of clinical operations in gynecology. 3) Partners with specialty-based care and hospital operational leaders to optimize inpatient quality and safety and reduce unwarranted variation.

The Medical Director works collaboratively with senior leaders across Intermountain Healthcare including Community-Based Care, Specialty-Based Care, Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, Office of Patient Experience, Intermountain Medical Group, and SelectHealth. They shall be credentialed and privileged on the medical staff of one or more Intermountain hospitals and will have a clinical practice spending approximately 50% of their time on administrative duties and the remainder of their time providing clinical services.

Key Responsibilities and Job Essentials

  • Provide medical direction for all services associated with the clinical program, emphasizing safety, quality, safety, patient experience, access, stewardship, engaged caregivers, and smart growth.
  • Lead and inspires a culture of success, collaboration, teamwork and dedication by all team members including physicians, APP\'s, nurses, technicians, and all staff members.
  • Guide strategic development and growth of women\'s health and community-based care programs and initiatives, focused on a holistic, integrated approach to wellness, prevention, and clinical care across the entirety of women\'s lives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of care processes and team-based care models, including use of APP\'s and virtual care, to support value and risk-based payment models.
  • Lead the development and implementation of evidence-based care processes and best-practices, team-based care, and compensation models, including use of APP\'s, virtual care, integrated behavioral health, and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), to support value and risk-based payment models.
  • Work in close partnership with leadership of hospital operations to optimize safety and quality and reduce variation in care in hospitals across the system.
  • Address performance concerns for providers, including peer review.
  • Support the annual strategic planning process for GYN care in collaboration with the Chair/MD and Executive Clinical Director, ensuring that annual goals and key performance metrics are established. Ensures goals set by the organization are achieved and maintained.
  • Mentor associate medical directors, provides leadership development, and guides team in effectively leading and managing women\'s care. Connects the patient experience across the care continuum.
  • Advocate for the evolving issues in the specialty of OB/GYN and the overall improvement of women\'s health including barriers to access, community education, and collaborations with community resources.
  • Implement best practices around staffing, clinic operations, compensation, peer review, and quality improvement.
  • Provide overall clinical supervision to physician leaders and their teams in the development of indications/guidelines, care process models, medical staff educational materials, and clinic/facility implementation tools. Approves clinical best practice.
  • Provide leadership in defining, implementing and ensuring the adoption of evidence-based clinical care best practices for GYN care across the region by all GYN providers.
  • Define region-wide standardization of equipment, supplies, and protocols for GYN care. Prioritizes and balances demands on Information Systems and other \'enabler\' support service resources. Reviews and refines generic report sets and shares ideas and ensures coordination between clinic and hospital operations and the GYN providers.
  • Support operational effectiveness through collaboration with clinical program Executive Clinical Director, maintain awareness of financial implications of clinical program initiatives, recommends capital expenditures for facilities, participates in medical expense budget, partners with Medical Group, SBC, and CBC operations to set budgets and optimize operating and financial performance. Ensures achievement of GYN physician stewardship goal targets.
  • Work with strategic sourcing and regional leadership to facilitate cost effective supply and equipment acquisition while assuring highest quality.
  • Work with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to achieve best practice and prices for medication.
  • Work in concert with administrative leadership to ensure regulatory and safety compliance in clinical program activities.
  • Lead efforts in research in clinical program initiatives in collaboration with Office of Research. Evaluates most effective processes and treatments and publishes results.
  • Collaborate effectively with national and international partners and organizations to support and enhance Intermountain\'s reputation and influence and augment and refine clinical program guidelines and initiatives.
  • Provide specialty specific review and/or consultation as requested by SelectHealth.
  • Provide specialty specific consultation as requested by Care Transformation/Information Systems.
Minimum Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. with residency or fellowship training and Board Certification in Gynecology. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Licensed or able to be licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Utah.
  • Effective leadership skills and experience working effectively and collegially with clinical and non-clinical staff to move others to action and model the vision and values of the organization.
  • Three years of progressive leadership experience in a health care delivery system or large Multi-Specialty Medical Group.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient at building teams and forging partnerships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical staff leadership experience.
  • Training in clinical quality improvement.
  • Trained in improvement science (i.e., Six Sigma, Lean, Project management, Advanced Training Program)
  • Experience working in a complex health system (hospitals, ambulatory clinics, post-acute care, etc.).
  • Privileged at one or more Intermountain facilities.
