Description
Extremely fast-paced government entity is looking for a Multi-Media/Communications Specialist to join the team for external and internal communications to daily promote and control the dissemination of information on multiple platforms to increase awareness and visibility of policy and legislation on behalf of the Caucus and its legislators. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter capable of writing for different voices, multitasking and handling multiple projects with varying deadlines at the same time. Knowledge and experience of the principles of public relations and marketing are a plus. This job may be eligible for telework opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research, write, distribute and publish engaging materials to promote and expand legislative and public policy, initiatives and events of lawmakers and the Caucus, including, but not limited to: news releases and editorial content, talking points, direct mail and other publications, mass emails, social media content, scripts and other electronic outreach, and website content.

    • Coordinate media and public outreach for legislators in Harrisburg and their district, from news conferences and other public events to digital content.

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets in lawmakers\' districts. Proactively pitch media outlets and follow-up on opportunities for lawmakers to participate in local news stories, quotes, op-eds and commentary.

    • Guide lawmakers in effective communications with the media and public.

    • Follow House chamber activity on session days and monitor the legislative calendar to proactively promote legislators and their issues and legislation.

    • Understand and execute web practices, curation and content management systems.

    • Coordinate with district offices on messaging for in-district events.

    • Travel throughout the state to attend legislative activities and handle media events as required.

    • Ability to adapt voice and tone for different audiences.

    • Perform any work-related duties as assigned
Requires onsite support of team members, staff, and Members, especially during Session. Session essential employees must be physically present at the worksite on Session Days.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in journalism and/or communications or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of communications, public relations or marketing experience is PREFERRED.
  • Proven excellent written and oral communications skills, including proper spelling, composition and grammar, and the ability to communicate professionally and appropriately with legislators, staff, media and the public.
  • Knowledge and experience of Associated Press style, newswriting and the principles of public relations and marketing.
  • Experience in producing content for both traditional print and digital mediums, including social media.
  • Ability to get along with others and work effectively as a team player. Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and perform under strict deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of state and local government, particularly the legislative process and of Pennsylvania issues.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point) and the ability to use the internet and other online sources to research issues and ideas, and analyze and interpret the materials to support the work product.
  • Demonstrate integrity and good judgment; model strong ethics in all actions; be objective and thoughtful; contribute to a positive work environment.
