Job Description


The City of Amesbury (estimated population 18,000), a dynamic Merrimack Valley community rich in tradition with a vibrant and expanding economic base, is seeking a strong candidate to serve as the City\xe2\x80\x99s Junior IT Support Specialist. The IT Specialist will be a customer-facing role for the City of Amesbury that will support all City and School departments with their IT support needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as examples of the various type of work that may be performed.   • Work as part of a service delivery team, provide first and second level technical support to assigned clients, both remote and on-site.
  • Travel to other City and school locations as needed to deliver on-site IT support for staff and administration.
  • Assist the IT department with on-going projects and updates to the City\xe2\x80\x99s IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor the integrity and performance of network systems and resolve any issues that arise including installing hardware and software, preserving back/restore of critical service and desktop data, maintaining user accounts, and installation, maintenance, and repair of computer accessories.
  • Provide support and troubleshoot for Windows integrated with cloud technologies from Microsoft Azure, Office365/Teams, Google, etc.
  • Provide solutions that align with client business objections and Amesbury processes.
  • Manage projects around lifecycle management for users, hardware, and software.
  • Manage end-user support tickets to resolve hardware, software, and cloud app issues.
  • Build and maintain OS images, deploy workstations and software with automation tools/workflows.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
Minimum Qualifications: Position requires an associate degree in information technology and one to three (1-3) year of IT experience; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Required Skills and Qualities:
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with client endpoint hardware/software lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work autonomously on various problems.
  • Ability to take on new responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and document solution.
  • Troubleshooting experience: 2 years preferred.
  • Windows experience: 2 years preferred.
  • Perform equipment moves, application software installation, connect workstations to network.
  • Ability to work outside of regular work hours in production support situations.
  • Reliable transportation for on-site support at Amesbury locations.
Desired Skills and Qualities:
  • Willingness to learn new skills, techniques, and practices under the leadership of senior IT staff.
  • Strong time management and task prioritization abilities.
  • Strong background with antivirus, backups, virtualization, and printing.
  • Experience with helpdesk applications and workflows.
  • Mac enterprise: 1 year preferred.
  • Basic Networking (DNS, DHCP, wireless, VoIP): 2 years preferred.
  • Office 365/Teams Admin: 1-2 years preferred.
  • Google G Suite Admin: 2 years preferred.
  • SaaS applications: 1-2 years preferred.

This employee frequently moves boxes up to 20 pounds across office areas for various needs, including having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
