Job Summary

College of Eastern Idaho is seeking a detail-oriented, thorough, and organized IT Support Technician to join our growing team. The technician will play a key role providing support for all areas of IT, specifically Tier 1 support. An ideal candidate will expect to update desktop systems, troubleshoot technical problems, and provide hands-on support for IT issues within the organization.

This position has been identified as being capable of performing job duties in a hybrid work setting. (Hybrid refers to a blend of work performed at a CEI facility and remotely during any given work week.)

Typical Job Functions

  • Keep systems up-to-date through operating systems patches and upgrades
  • Provides individual and/or group instruction and training to faculty, staff, and/or students on new or updated technologies
  • Assists with the design, implementation, and ongoing support of new software and features
  • Investigates and oversee troubleshooting of system errors
  • Provides Tier 1 Help Desk support with network issues
  • Provides technical support either by phone, remote access, and/or site visits as needed
  • Provides front line support for hardware maintenance, software, networking, etc.
  • Evaluates and recommends connectivity issues, equipment, and software
  • Modifies configurations, utilities, software, etc.
  • Installs equipment for new users
  • Troubleshoots and repairs software, networks, virus protection, Wi-Fi technology, and more
  • Maintains current knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and/or systems
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience identifying and resolving computer and system problems including compatibility conflicts, application issues, and hardware malfunctions; strong customer-service experience with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Goal-oriented and organized team player
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer or network problems
  • Up-to-date knowledge of systems, information, software, and upgrades
  • Incumbent must reside in the State of Idaho
Additional Desired Qualifications
  • One or more years of experience in IT environment.
  • Previous experience as a Help Desk Technician, Computer Technician, or IT Support.
  • Experience imaging Microsoft Windows desktop computers
  • Associate degree or higher in IT related field
  • CompTIA A+ certification, or other IT related professional certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish)


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Sitting, standing, walking, keyboarding, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, gross manipulations (involves hands) and standing or sitting (combination). Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.

Background Investigations:

Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks.
