The mission of the is to protect lives, property and the environment with comprehensive risk reduction programs and safe and effective emergency response provided by highly skilled career and volunteer service providers representing the County\'s diverse population. The mission of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Technology Services team is to provide customer-focused technology service and to implement the type of automation necessary to accomplish the department\'s core mission.

What You Will Be Doing

MCFRS is seeking a full performance level professional to perform Information Technology Specialist III work. The core duties include Active Directory administration, network and server administration, maintenance of the Enterprise computing environment, maintenance of security in the Enterprise environment and maintenance of the hardware and software inventory for the organization. The positions will require work schedule flexibility including some after-hours work, if necessary, to meet operational or customer requirements.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Administration and maintenance of the Active Directory organizational unit for the fire department.
  • This includes modifications to user accounts over employee lifecycle, mailbox administration to include security, automatic replies, auto-forwards, etc.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure in support of MCFRS projects, to include switches, firewalls, servers, and storage.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot monitoring, alerting and backups.
  • Administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Enterprise computing environment.
  • This includes working with a team to produce a stable image suitable for deployment in the MCFRS enterprise.
  • Provide oversight and troubleshooting for new equipment rollouts, applications, networking, and printing.
  • Maintain the security of the Enterprise computing environment.
  • Monitor the state of security patching on Enterprise computers.
  • Administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of security patching on MCFRS servers.
  • Participate in the monthly backup of MCFRS firewalls and switches.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware and software.
  • Record acquisition of new hardware and software.
  • Track movement of hardware and software licenses.
  • Utilize internal tools to maintain records and reports.

Additional Information:
  • The position serves as technical team lead in specific projects and be responsible for supervising a team of contractors performing installations and upgrades.
  • Ability to travel to satellite offices throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.
To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.

Minimum Qualifications

:

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in the information technology field in such areas as programming, systems analysis, and data/telecommunications.

Education: Bachelor\'s degree in Information Technology or Network Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. For applicants possessing very hard-to-find skills which are a critical need to the department/agency, training and certification may be accepted in lieu of full degree requirements.

Physical Ability: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Criteria

There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments. All applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be rated \xe2\x80\x9cQualified\xe2\x80\x9d, placed on the eligible list, and may be considered for an interview.
