West Virginia University Cancer Institute is currently accepting applications for a Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

As a Program Coordinator, you will participate in and contribute to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of WVU Cancer Institute (WVUCI) and Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC). You will manage day-to-day programming for one or more specific CPC programs or WVUCI priority projects. You will gain practical experience in implementation science, evaluation, and dissemination of results to multiple audiences. Build relationships and increase collaboration with other strategic partners, including community members, public health programs, health systems, and other academic institutions.

An on-campus office is provided, but the position will include opportunities for hybrid work two-three days per week. This position interfaces with several programs and requires some travel.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:
  • Oversee all aspects of day-today program management, implementation, and innovation.
  • Identify, develop new, and maintain partnerships with strategic stakeholders, community, and professional partners, and various community-based organizations throughout West Virginia and the Appalachian region.
  • Coordinate statewide and regional meetings, trainings, and special events which may include managing the continuing education credit process and other administrative activities related to event planning.
  • Coordinate meetings for steering and advisory boards as needed to acquire community-based engagement. This includes developing an agenda, recording meeting minutes, and disseminating meeting minutes as appropriate.
  • Coordinate partnership-related activities which includes recruitment, enrollment, and retention of members to cancer-related programs, both online and in-person.
  • Contribute to the design and dissemination of innovative, culturally appropriate, evidence-based programs, content, and services. Provide direction and expertise in program planning, implementation, evaluation, and applied research.
  • Track program progress, assessing strengths/weaknesses, and develop and implement strategies to improve outcomes and deliverables.
  • Develop promotional and educational materials for dissemination through digital media outlets.
  • Create and contribute to and/or maintain social media accounts for specific CPC or WVUCI efforts. This may include posting on social media, facilitating podcasts, etc.
  • Create content for specific program, CPC, and/or WVUCI websites.
  • Disseminate information to appropriate community-based groups in writing and digitally in support of broader program goals.
  • Facilitate the goals and processes associated with the distribution of resources (funding, content-specific, etc.) to community members as appropriate. This may include management of mini-grants, recruitment and selection of awardees, the provision of technical assistance, progress monitoring, and some budgetary oversite of projects.
  • Design, implement, and maintain data collection tools and summarize data collection processes, procedures, and activities.
  • Assist with original research in cancer prevention and control through innovative interventions that translate research into practice.
  • Assist with design and conduct mixed methods research.
  • Create and maintain Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols to ensure data protection and research activities follow best practices, are conducted ethically, and are compliant with university-level, as well as national and state level policies for the responsible conduct of research.
  • Disseminate research and evaluation findings nationally, regionally, and locally through published manuscripts, presentations, research briefs, and other reports.
  • Participate in Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) activities.
  • Participate in the implementation of the mission, vision, and strategic plan for the WVU Cancer Institute and Cancer Prevention and Control.
  • Provide support and expertise to existing funded programs within Cancer Prevention and Control, including evaluation, data interpretation, grant writing assistance, and dissemination.
  • Attend statewide initiatives such as Mountains of Hope Cancer Coalition, community events, and partner collaborations, etc.
  • Develop and deliver presentations on cancer screening, health literacy, and cultural competency as needed.
  • Represent WVU Cancer Institute and/or Cancer Prevention and Control at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and deals tactfully with departments, organizational units, related programs, and external agencies.
  • Assist with development of cancer educational and small media resources.
  • Submit articles, abstracts, and posters to promote programmatic work and outreach of CPC.
  • Seek and apply for additional funding opportunities for CPC projects.
  • Collaborate with other CPC staff and programs to extend the reach of CPC.
  • Participate in and contribute to regular CPC staff meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in appropriate discipline: public health, health communications, social work, health education, healthcare administration, marketing, or other healthcare professions degree. Master\'s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing health-related education programs, event planning, group dynamics, leadership, program assessment, evaluation, and working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong management, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Skilled at writing correspondence and preparing reports.
  • Ability to operate the necessary computer, software (Microsoft Office), web-based and other high-tech equipment relevant to the program.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in using statistical software.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with database management software, internet search engines, REDCap, Qualtrics, etc.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Writes and edits clearly and informatively, varies style to meet needs, and presents/interprets data for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds.
  • Skilled in group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to manage health education programs, event planning, group dynamics, leadership, program assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with significant degree of independence.
  • Commitment to principles of community and diversity.
  • Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds and persons of all ages and orientations.
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays, working outside the traditional work week when needed.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Willingness to seek consultation and supervision as needed.
  • Knowledge of current cancer health issues, health education and behavioral theories, and health information needs of the medically underserved preferred.
