Fleet Dispatcher

Wilsonart, Temple has an immediate opening for a Fleet Dispatcher. This individual Provides support for the department including a wide variety of specialized administrative functions such as recording mileage, fuel used, repairs performed, assigning trucks to drivers, preparing route sheets and trip envelopes. Schedules back hauls to increase the cost efficiency of operating the tractor-trailers. Performs other tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a variety of advanced administrative duties including recording materials transferred, vehicle usage, preparing documentation for transporting hazardous materials, preparing various mileage and usage reports and coordinating activities to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Determines most efficient and economical routes.
  • Records incoming and outgoing freight data such as destination and weight.
  • Schedules backhauls for returning trucks.
  • Ensures accuracy of rate charges by comparing classification of materials with rate chart.
  • Maintains files of claims for overcharges and for damages to goods in transit.
  • Negotiates contracts for leasing of transportation equipment or property
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize word processors and spreadsheets
rules/regulations governing work stand.
  • Knowledge of Hours of Service Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the location, approximate mileage and travel time to major U.S. cities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating the dispatching of trucks and the handling of hazardous
materials and the ability to learn new laws governing the Fleet.
  • Ability to communicate well in oral and written forms.
  • Must have the ability to handle many tasks at once.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

High School Graduate or GED

Education and Experience

Sixty semester hours of college in Business Administration or a closely related field plus two years of scheduling/coordinating between multiple areas/departments. One year dispatching preferred. One additional year of experience may substitute for thirty semester hours of college with a maximum substitution of two years.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Light work - Tasks involve pushing/pulling, lifting and standing or using force equal to handling materials up to 20 pounds.
