Position Summary:

The Controller is responsible for directing all aspects of the company's accounting and financial reporting functions across multiple business units. This role will ensure accurate financial statements, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the implementation of best practices in financial management. The Controller will also partner with senior leadership to provide financial analysis and recommendations that guide decision-making across development, construction, property management, and real estate brokerage operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, job cost accounting, and cash management. Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes; prepare and review financial statements across business divisions. Develop and maintain financial controls, accounting policies, and internal audit procedures to safeguard company assets. Lead budgeting and forecasting processes for each business line and consolidate results for executive review. Provide financial analysis and insights on project performance, property operations, construction costs, and brokerage activities. Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings and regulations; coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors. Monitor working capital, debt covenants, and banking relationships. Implement systems and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting. Recruit, train, and supervise accounting staff; promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement. Act as a key advisor to leadership by providing financial modeling and scenario analysis for new developments, acquisitions, and investment opportunities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. Background in real estate development, construction, property management, or related industries strongly preferred. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, job cost accounting, and key real estate industry metrics. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or comparable systems) and willingness to learn industry-specific platforms (e.g., AppFolio, BuilderTrend). Familiarity with property tax assessments and compliance requirements. Experience with employment hiring practices and employee benefits plan administration. Understanding of property, casualty, and workers' compensation insurance policies. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
