The State of Utah Department of Commerce has a full-time DOPL Investigator position open in the St. George office of the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). This position provides medical, dental, vision insurance from day one, 12 paid vacation days, vacation and sick leave, and so much more.

This position may be in the office for training, and then may be able to telework up to two days per week (if eligibility requirements are met).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
This DOPL Investigator position is a working level, Investigator II, Non-POST position. You are assigned a larger caseload of moderately complex cases that require less supervision than employees in an Investigator I position. This position includes \'field work\' with primarily construction trade investigations. Duties include:
  • Conducting investigations and inspections into allegations of a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions, or illegal actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc.
  • Receiving, researching, and responding to incoming questions or complaints; providing information, explaining policy and procedures, and/or facilitating a resolution.
  • Maintaining detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements.
  • Acting as an expert witness. Giving testimony and /or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings.
  • Gathering, preserving, and/or storing evidence; maintaining the integrity of evidence through the appropriate collection, handling, security, and chain of custody, etc.
  • Performing initial background and history research on individual(s) being investigated as well as screening, composing, and/or controlling sensitive data/documentation.
  • Conducting interviews to gather or clarify information.
  • Writing detailed reports based on investigation or inspection.
  • Coordinating investigative efforts with federal, state, and/or local agencies.
Investigative duties include:
  • Regulatory investigations and inspections,
  • Protecting the public from incompetent, negligent, unethical, and criminal practices of those licensed by DOPL and those unlicensed, working in regulated and licensed occupations.

Supplemental Information
  • Job Classification: Investigator II, Non-POST (83151).
  • Preference for applicants who have completed at least a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
  • DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers.
  • As a condition of employment with the Department of Commerce, employees shall receive compensatory time off in lieu of payment in cash for all overtime worked under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) or similar activities.
  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g. working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
