Description / Position Overview The purpose of this position is to provide support and expertise through comprehensive assessment planning and investigation to meet the needs of the assigned Investigations Unit. This position will be required to maintain collaborative relationships with the appropriate outside agencies at the local, state, and national level. The CSPD (Colorado Springs Police Department) CCI (Civilian Criminal Investigator) is a civilian position which could be assigned to any Unit by performing various routine non-sworn law enforcement duties and activities that do not require carrying a weapon or arrest authority.
This is a .75 position working 30 hours per week. The work schedule, which is subject to the needs of the department, will primarily be Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Review cases for solvability
Document and follow up on potential investigative leads
Submit evidence to be processed to the CSPD Crime Lab or CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) for DNA evidence or other evidence of probative value
Document and submit reports of the findings of assigned investigations in a thorough and timely manner
Conduct field work, including victim and witness interviews, interrogations (a sworn detective must be present during the suspect interrogation), scene processing, obtaining and executing search warrants and court orders, and other investigative tasks as needed
Prepare and file cases with the District Attorney\xe2\x80\x99s office
Testify in court when necessary
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
Techniques, theories, and methods of investigation
Criminal procedures related to evidence and criminal investigations
Principles of filing and record keeping
Modern office equipment, including computers and supporting software
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to:
Maintain accurate files
Handle sensitive issues and interactions
Use analytical judgment and decision-making skills
Properly and safely operate a motor vehicle
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Work is performed primarily in the office but does have some work in the field, with potential exposure to extreme weather conditions, biohazardous materials, hostile or aggressive individuals, and criminal suspects. This position requires physically demanding work, including climbing, crawling, jumping, and walking during the course of investigative activities; and pushing, pulling, and lifting and/or carrying 25 pounds on a regular basis and 50 pounds occasionally, and potential exposure to hostile or aggressive individuals and criminal suspects. Successful candidates will have
Bachelor\'s degree from accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or a related field
Five years of law enforcement experience in a sworn position or five years of experience in a non-sworn position responsible for investigating various crimes. A combination of sworn law enforcement and non-sworn investigative experience equivalent to five or more years will also be considered.
Possess, or obtain upon hire, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver\xe2\x80\x99s license not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug related violations or pending charges
Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, NCIC/CCIC (National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center) certification
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. Ideal candidates will also have
Experience specifically related to motor vehicle theft investigations
Computer based investigative skills
Additional Information The job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of a polygraph examination, extensive background check, and other pre-employment assessments.

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
