Overview:

The Director - Compliance provides leadership, direction and oversight over the development, implementation, and effective functioning of the Mercy Compliance Program within a specific Hospital community. Facilitates policies and processes to support adherence to the Mercy Code of Conduct and Compliance Program Plan by Mercy co-workers and physicians serving in all assigned hospitals, clinics, Mercy-wide service lines, and post-acute facility locations. The Director reports to a Regional Director of Compliance and performs duties in a manner consistent with Mercy\'s mission and values.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor\'s Degree. You may be asked to provide proof of education.
    Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in health care regulatory compliance required.
    Certifications: Certified in Healthcare Compliance through the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) or become certified within 24 months of hire.
    Other: Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.
  • Preferred Education: Master\'s Degree preferred.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous healthcare compliance program experience preferred.

Description Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for implementation and effective functioning of the Mercy Compliance Program at assigned hospital community. Assists in the creation of an annual work plan to address compliance initiative priorities identified through risk assessment. Advises leadership within assigned Community or service line(s) on issues concerning compliance matters, including recommending process improvements and controls to ensure compliance. Establishes standards for compliance and mechanisms to measure and monitor results.
  • Directs and/or personally conducts investigations of reports of alleged violations of the organization\'s policies and procedures and/or regulatory requirements from various sources including Mercy\'s Compliance Hotline reporting system, SAFE, or through issues reported directly by Mercy co-workers. Assures resolution of each reported concern and documentation of each report, investigation process, findings and resolution in prescribed Mercy Compliance Program matters tracking system.
  • Monitors updates to federal and state laws and regulations applicable to Mercy\'s ministry, and keeps leadership informed regarding compliance developments and risks relevant to Mercy operations. Periodically reviews and updates compliance policies, procedures, and practices, and assures that the hospitals, clinics and post-acute care facilities in the Community are in compliance with Mercy\'s Code of Conduct, and applicable law and regulations. Acts as a consultative resource to Community co-workers on compliance matters.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication processes to facilitate reporting of compliance concerns, resolution of compliance concerns, and completion of proactive initiatives to support effective compliance throughout the region and/or assigned service line(s). Works collaboratively with Mercy Revenue Management, the Office of General Counsel, Business Risk Services, operations leaders and other Compliance team members, to share best practices, promptly resolve compliance matters and advance compliance initiatives throughout the ministry.
  • Actively contributes to the development of Mercy\'s Compliance Education Plan.
  • Organizes and leads compliance committee meetings. Provides regular reports to Compliance Committees, the Board(s) of Directors and Leadership within the assigned Community and the Ministry\'s Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer and, where applicable, the Executive Director-Compliance for the Region of the assigned Community.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. Some travel is required for this position.
