The UNC Department of Pediatrics (DOP) Children\'s Research Institute (CRI) Division is recruiting a Director of Research Program Management. This position will oversee the development of the research program support capacity for the CRI, which focuses on supporting large, complex research initiatives involving investigators with the UNC DOP. Responsibilities for this role will include overall program and resource management, oversight of CRI project managers and other CRI/non-CRI research personnel, evaluating and consulting on research program feasibility and design, planning, organizing and managing research proposal submissions and study processes, procedure design and implementation, data and database management, overall program development and collaborative efforts with other units [e.g. NC TraCS, research training programs (i.e. K12, T32, etc), School of Medicine, etc], and associated research administrative functions. This position will work closely with the administrative and scientific directors of the CRI, the UNC DOP research administrative group, and will report directly to the Chair of the DOP.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant Bachelor\'s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience leading research projects is required.
  • Knowledge and experience working in an academic medical institution is also required.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences as well as build relationships with a variety of constituents (e.g., research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff).
  • Candidate must demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and exhibit proven research management abilities with an understanding of the culture, policies, and procedures relevant to academic research programs.
  • This position requires an individual with:
  • Significant knowledge and experience with academic research, including funding mechanisms and opportunities, identifying research study needs, proposal development, regulatory and IRB compliance policies, and methods of presentation of research results.
  • Familiarity with academic research structures, preferably the organization of the UNC School of Medicine.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complicated issues effectively.
  • Candidate must be able to work simultaneously on several activities and handle multiple demands with efficiency and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Experience conducting data analysis and management is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with NIH funded researchers or in a research environment a plus.
  • Knowledge of UNC systems and policies preferred.
