Job Description


Provides rigorous science infused educational programs and opportunities for K-8 students including STEM and STEAM instruction and programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops overall leadership and guidance for the design, implementation, and assessment of K-8 science education
  • Utilizes student assessment data to facilitate program improvement
  • Manages high-functioning and collaborative teams that are able to execute effectively and produce quality work to further the visions of the district
  • Leads strategic planning around science initiatives to support the district-wide vision for teaching and learning
  • Leads science teams within STEM/STEAM programs to improve student outcomes via professional learning, curriculum/program supports, and partnerships
  • Collaborates with school administration to support a coherent vision for teaching and learning across content areas
  • Facilitates regular meetings with administration and instructional staff to identify priority areas for continuous improvement of the district\'s curriculum
  • Engages in regular progress monitoring and feedback cycles to deepen the impact of content areas
  • Assesses training needs; coordinates the design and delivery of professional development activities which facilitate the professional growth of staff and enhance the quality of science instructional programs for student achievement
  • Provides subject matter expertise on district-wide initiatives including cross-departmental programs, and other resource development
  • Maintains content area expertise by staying abreast of current research, practices, and innovation in the field.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates high-quality professional learning activities
  • Reports to the Superintendent and/or their designee
  • The above does not encompass all duties and responsibilities of position
REQUIREMENTS
  • Connecticut Intermediate Administrator (092) certification and in one or more subject areas - Biology, Chemistry, Physics or General Science
  • Minimum of 5 years successful teaching of science curriculum experience
  • Successful supervisory experience, including planning, classroom management, instructional development and delivery of professional growth, instructional delivery and student assessment strategies.
  • Experience writing curriculum
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, administrators, parents and community groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of technology
This is a BCAS union position. The 2023-2024 salary range (Group 2) is MA $129,445 to PhD $162,351. Includes all benefits as outlined in the current contract.
