Job Summary
The purpose of this classification is to assist the Division Director in the implementation of the Sports Tourism Division goals and objectives and division operations; assures the effective coordination of programs and strategies, and develops programs that are within budget constraints; oversees the work related to sports sales and destination sports marketing functions of the Collier County Tourism Division, Naples, Marco Island, and Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). Serves in the stead of the division director in his/her absence and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Provide leadership on behalf of the County relating to the Sports Complex including but not limited to sporting events, concerts, special use permits such as conferences/ gatherings or special interest activities regarding marketing, communications and logistics across other County divisions.
Responsible as the primary conduit between Paradise Coast Sports Complex management company and County Leadership regarding operational and County related needs and concerns.
Responsible for the creation, maintenance and communication of a destination wide calendar of activity providing insight to community visitation and asset use compression related but not limited to special events, sporting events, sporting tournaments, community concerts, cultural events and themed activities.
Identify, solicit and attract potential ancillary sporting and special events to Collier County beyond the Sports Complex intended to drive overnight visitation to the destination, requiring logistics and administration among County owned as well as privately owned sporting facilities and assets.
Responsible as the primary conduit of coordination between Sports Complex and Parks and Recreation division in order to facilitate sporting and special events extending beyond the Sports Complex.
Provide leadership and best practice sales and technical guidance to Sports Sales staff as part of the Tourism Division of Collier County and the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB.
This position promotes Collier County as a sports event and training destination, provides professional, sales and technical support to Tourism and other County divisions.
Develop and maintain strong professional relations with local accommodations and attractions.
Directs and coordinates all aspects of sports, marquee and special events including permitting, contract negotiations and financial settlements.
Primary point of contact for all marquee sporting activities occurring across the County including but not limited to Pickleball, FBU, QBE/CME & CHUBB Classic just to list current examples.
Prepare and deliver monthly destination sports and Sports Complex activity update reports to the Tourism Board (TDC) and the County Commission (BCC) and assume responsibility for the Tourist Development Council (TDC) and the CVB staff in the Director\'s absence.
Responsible for the development, monitoring and management of sports events and their corresponding budgets and grants designed to attract overnight visitation to the destination.
Partners with the Division Director and leads in the production of marketing materials used for solicitation of both new and existing sports business for the County.
Meets regularly with community partners to ensure the best possible resources and practices are in place for Collier County to be a top-tier destination for sports and entertainment events.
Assists in the direction, development, and coordination of Sports programs, activities, policies and procedures for the Collier County Tourism division.
Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of strategic, fiscal and marketing plans relating to Sports for the County.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; interviews and hires staff; coaches staff on County policies and procedures; provides and implements best-in-class destination marketing and sales strategies while educating and inspiring the team.
Reviews and approves project plans, reports and procedures; sets priorities and assures project timelines and performance standards are met.
Provides ongoing leadership, interaction and administrative guidance to sales and operational staff as well as Sports Complex management company.
Assists in directing and managing the day-to-day efforts of a multi-million dollar Sports Complex overseeing sales and marketing efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Marketing, Sports Management Business Administration, Public Administration or related field; five years of professional experience in marketing, tourism, sports marketing, strategic planning; five or more years of prior management-level supervisory experience is required.
  • Certification in Destination Management such as CDME or PDM, or sports and other marketing or management credential is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
    Fingerprinting required.

  • Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County\xe2\x80\x99s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
