Job Description

O\xe2\x80\x99Hara Corporation, one of the nation\xe2\x80\x99s largest commercial fishing companies, maintains operations in Alaska, the State of Washington, Massachusetts, and Maine. In this newly created position, the Controller will direct and oversee the financial activities of O\xe2\x80\x99Hara, prepare financial statements and reports, and create financial forecasts. Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
• Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
• Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company\xe2\x80\x99s performance.
• Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
• Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Compares financial projections to actual results; makes or oversees necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.
• Reviews the financial planning process and suggest improvements to current methods.
• Works with an external accounting firm and provides information for the annual review.
• Files quarterly and annual reports with IRS and State Agencies.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Works with the CFO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications:

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in accounting
• 3+ years of experience in corporate financial leadership with multiple direct reports.
• 5+ years of experience in a corporate accounting function involving operational accounting (AP, AR, Payroll) and regular financial close cycles.
• ERP or accounting software experience
• Analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including balance sheet reconciliations, monthly & quarterly financial analysis, and closing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (Active Status)
• MBA or Advanced Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration
• Nationally recognized certifications such as CFA or CMA.
