JOB SUMMARY

Primarily responsible for the accurate completion of the financial statement process. Leads and directs the organization\'s Accounting functions. Establishes and maintains the organization\'s overall accounting systems, procedures, and policies to ensure accuracy. Directs all analysis and reporting of financial information including budgets, planning, required filings and reports. Presents findings and recommendations to management. Works under the supervision of the Chief Finical Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Directs and administers relevant policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the following systems (including but not limited to): the general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and accounts payable functions.
  • Primary responsibility for the accurate compilation of the organization\'s financial statement process, including review and analysis to ensure timely production while conveying an accurate financial picture of the organization\'s operations. Maintaining the integrity of the department is a priority. Financial statements must be compiled in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and CCH financial reporting requirements.
  • Primary responsibility for development of and adherence to appropriate internal controls. Protecting the assets of the organization are a priority.
  • Directs the annual capital budget process and leads the capital budget committee. Monitors expenditures and reports monthly on the status of on-going construction projects.
  • Primary responsibility for the planning, preparation and completion of the annual operating budget. Provides education, guidelines and assistance to department managers. Prepares the final hospital budget and supplemental information in accordance with relevant policies and procedures for presentation to management, the Board and the general public. Monitors and reports on expenditures against approved budgets and provides analyses variances as needed.
  • Continuous effort to improve existing systems and/or procedures to assure efficient use of data processing capabilities and to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Responsible for ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely and specifically managing the daily cash reconciliation process. Implements decisions provided by or in conjunction with management, relative to banking and investment relationships.
  • Implements strategies to maximize reimbursement and cost containment efforts for the organization. Works with line departments to develop cost reduction programs.
  • Responsible for the preparation of schedules and information necessary to complete the Medicare Cost Report. Responsible for annual preparation of audit schedules and workpapers necessary to ensure a smooth process for auditing the financial statements.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of accurate governmental reimbursement reports.
  • Primary responsibility to ensure all management estimate calculations, such as for contractual allowance and bad debt reserves, and medical benefit expense, follow an industry standard methodology.
  • Responsible for financial reporting for outpatient clinics. Includes the recording of adjustments, collection of cash and month end financial reporting.
  • Manages the process for productivity benchmarking and discovering productivity opportunities.
  • Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with Human Resource policies. Provides direction and support to staff to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Must lead with integrity.
  • Responsible for identifying, documenting, monitoring, evaluating, and taking corrective action for quality improvement regarding problems in the Accounting department.
  • Complies with the Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education
  • College graduate with a 4-year degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Master\'s Degree preferred.
  • Licensure
  • Preference given for CPA.
  • Experience
  • A minimum of 5 -7 years of experience in an accounting-related field
  • Three or more years experience in a management position directly supervising staff and interacting with co-workers.
  • Certifications required

  • Completes Annual Mandatory Education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR) to maintain professional license.
  • Licensed professionals must strictly adhere to the ethical code of their respective disciplines.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting including GAAP and CCH financial reporting requirements.
  • High level of effective communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge including heavy spreadsheet experience (Excel) combine with analytical and reasoning skills and math aptitude with a high level of mental concentration.
  • Able to work independently and accurately without close supervision.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions and under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all data, ensuring information is not released to unauthorized individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, co-workers, staff, and hospital management. Patience and ability to maintain composure in a stressful situation and effective problem-solving skills.
