Job Description


Objective: Develop, direct and implement a comprehensive communication plan incorporating print, digital and social media. Critical Function Areas: Comprehensive Professional Communication Program: Communications are systematic, transparent, two-way and comprehensive. They align with and support the District\xe2\x80\x99s goals and objectives.

  • Recommends new and relevant forms of emerging outlets for district news by connecting to evolving digital monitoring and measurement technologies
  • Establishes communication as a priority
  • Maximizes communication with leadership teams
  • Uses and deploys multiple and varied communication strategies, including accommodations for diversity
  • Ensures ethical and professional communication effectiveness
  • Uses research to understand communication needs and requirements
  • Embeds communication effectiveness across district and building operations
  • Establishes effective crisis communication plans and procedures
  • Effectively engages target audiences through social media and web
  • Effectively managing communications through the news media
  • Maintains active involvement in professional organizations related to public school communication and public relations efforts
  • Focuses on customer service
Internal Communications: The school communications program recognizes the invaluable role of all District personnel as representatives of the District. It includes a proactive program for providing them with the skills, information and resources they need.
  • Consults and acts as a resource for principals and teachers on school/classroom communication
  • Consults and acts as a resource for district administrators on communications, presentations, and document creation
  • Works collaboratively with the District leadership team
  • Evaluates and manages information overload
  • Communicates with employees during a crisis
  • Researches and understands employee needs, expectations, opinions, attitudes, knowledge level as it relates to communication
Parent/Family/Community Communications: The school communications program recognizes the relationship between parent/family engagement and student success. It includes a proactive program to keep parents/families informed about and involved in their children\xe2\x80\x99s education with the ultimate goal of building collaboration and trust to support student learning.
  • Directs and implements a comprehensive communication plan for the purpose of communicating with parents, other citizens who reside within the district, and community/governmental agencies
  • Communicates school and District goals, plans, programs, finances successes and issues
  • Supports parent-teacher and parent-school communications
  • Communicates with community/parents/families during crisis
  • Researches and understands parent/family/community needs, expectations, opinions, attitudes and knowledge levels
  • Fosters involvement and collaboration within the community
  • Evaluates communication effectiveness to inform strategy
  • Fosters effective problem-solving and resolution
  • Consults and acts as a resource for the River Trails School District 26 Educational Foundation, school parent teacher organizations and alumni.
Branding/Marketing Communications: Declining resources, changing demographics, news media scrutiny and the importance of public perceptions are just a few reasons schools and school districts need an effective marketing program. Having a well-defined and authentically experienced brand as part of the marketing strategy helps position the school district in the community\xe2\x80\x99s mind and supports the District\xe2\x80\x99s vision.
  • Generates publicity and general awareness efforts, raising the profile of the District through a wide range of media.
  • Coordinates the publication and dissemination of District branding/marketing communications
  • Helps plan and publicize public meetings
  • Fosters brand ownership, identity and loyalty among staff and District leadership
  • Provides standards and guidelines for consistent use of adopted brand assets (logo, slogan/tagline, District message/mission)
  • Develops a comprehensive and effective plan in support of the brand and District goals
  • Measures/evaluates the impact of plan
Carries out other duties as assigned by the Superintendent Job Type: Full-time Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year Benefits:
