Position Summary Under the direction of the Communications & Marketing Manager, the communications specialist works as part of a team to inform Ann Arbor District Library patrons of the programs, events, exhibits, stories, and services offered by AADL. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:

• Write, design, curate, and manage social media content for AADL digital channels.
• Write grammatically correct, well-worded, engaging, and on-brand content for social media channels.
• Help maintain editorial calendars for communications initiatives.
• Help coordinate paid social media campaigns.
• Help write and coordinate AADL email newsletter.
• Recommend ongoing best practices to reach patron audiences on a variety of channels.
• Help create original content to support the goals of the AADL.
• Occasionally cover live events, taking photos/video, and posting to social channels.
• Communicate with staff in other departments and attend meetings when applicable.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications include:

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree from a four-year college or university; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of two years of work with social media, content creation, digital strategy, or writing.
• Demonstrated success creating social media content for brands.
• Knowledgeable about current trends and best practices in social media and digital content.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
• Strong project management skills including the ability to organize work, set priorities, and handle multiple tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail. Must be flexible and willing to work in situations with multiple deadlines.
• Strong public service commitment and positive attitude.
• Ability to collaborate with Library staff throughout the organization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Strong listening skills and an ability to communicate design ideas to others.
• Ability to work within a set of brand standards as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications include:

• Degree from a four-year college or university in communications, marketing, or related field.
• Three years experience in social media marketing or related communications field.
• Graphic design experience.
• Ability to edit audio and video for podcasts and short videos.
• Multilingual.
