Position Summary

  • Position: Communications Manager
  • Reports to: Political Director
  • Start date: June 1st, 2023
  • Location: Hybrid
  • Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on experience

The Communications Manager will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, public relations messages, and collateral to clearly and consistently articulate RAZE/RAZA\xe2\x80\x99s mission. The Communications Manager will ensure that RAZE/RAZA is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information within this diverse network and constituent base. The Communications Manager will work closely with Leadership within the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
  • Staff management: Manage all Communications Team members (including a Communications Contractor and a Communications Coordinator who manages three part-time Fellows).
  • Strategic planning: Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the network\'s audiences in collaboration with the RAZE/RAZA Leadership and Team.
  • Content management: Set and oversee the organization\xe2\x80\x99s content calendar, ensuring timely production of newsletters, emails, calls to action, and press releases.
  • Social media management: Ensure our team of Fellows across the state (in Pinal, Yuma, and Coconino Counties) post and schedule content for organizational social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn).
  • Network management: Maintain contacts and lists in EveryAction (which we use for customer relationship management). Prepare mass email communications and analyze the performance data to increase online engagement with contacts.
  • Collateral (digital and print): Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral\xe2\x80\x94and support the Communications Team in doing this work.
  • Event promotion and content: Support outreach and logistics for organizing, education, and political events, as well as additional internal and external events.
  • Website: Publish content to our website and troubleshoot problems. Ensure our website is updated regularly. Identify and implement SEO, accessibility, and other best practices.
  • Organizational management and general: Participate in organization-wide meetings, retreats and activities. Contribute and review content, provide feedback on plans and proposals, and have fun with our team!
Requirements
  • Required experience, skills and strengths
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in communications, marketing, multimedia production and/or social media for nonprofit, advocacy, or political organizations in Rural spaces.
  • Strong project management skills, including attention to detail and deadlines, and the ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.
  • Excellent computer skills, including at least some of the following types of software: Google workspace products, EveryAction or other email/CRM systems, Asana or other project management software, Wix or other content management systems, and design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Desired experience, skills and strengths (The following are ideal but are not required. Please apply even if you do not meet some criteria.)
  • Experience digitally organizing in diverse rural communities.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in clear, compelling and accessible ways that translate well across languages and contexts.
  • An eye for design.
  • Can easily grasp and interpret insight data such as Google analytics and email performance.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to contribute effectively to a highly collaborative and democratic organization.
  • Proficiency in at least one language other than English.
  • Experience living and working in rural communities.
