Denver Public Schools is searching for our next Chief of Academics. Under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent, the Chief of Academics is responsible for providing vision and strategic direction for curriculum and instruction, college and career readiness, multilingual education programming, and transformational social emotional and academic learning. This individual is responsible for developing and leading teams who are responsible for the planning and delivery of all academic and instructional programs and services to improve the academic achievement and learning of all students so that we progress towards our district Vision that Every Learner Thrives.


In alignment with district priorities outlined in our Strategic Roadmap, the Chief of Academics will ensure academic programs are developed and implemented based on best practices, district goals, and state standards. This role works collaboratively as a member of the District Leadership Team as a values-based organization; achieves Board of Education Ends and goals through our shared commitment to Students First, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability and Fun. Plans, assigns and supervises the work performed in the areas of responsibility; ensures compliance with District policy and practices and appropriate federal, state and local rules and regulations.

What You\'ll Do:




  • Refine and implement the Academic Strategic Plan that is aligned with the
    District\xe2\x80\x99s academic goals defined in the Strategic Roadmap


  • Ensures that the divisions within the department are working in a cohesive manner to successfully implement the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) in all
    District elementary, middle, and high schools



  • Supervises staff, ensuring teams develop and deliver curricular and instructional Programs, professional learning and services for all content areas that are based on best practices and aligned with standards and that teachers and principals have the knowledge, skills and resources to deliver effective academic programming so that students
    receive a highly personalized, standards-based learning experience



  • Aligns staffing and budget with the team\xe2\x80\x99s strategies to ensure goals are achieved; executes financial and human resources management practices (with support from Finance and Human Resources) to ensure resources are
    optimally used in support of student success



  • Develops systems to communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the team and other District departments; develops strong partnership with the Chief of Schools to support effective implementation of Academic Strategic Plan; engages the Collaborative Directors to enthusiastically support the implementation of academic
    programming



  • Remains knowledgeable about and shapes research and best practices regarding
    leadership and management, implementation of standards, adult learning
    personalized learning and student assessments; effectively share knowledge and
    expertise



  • Develops systems and team members to progress monitor formative and summative student data as soon as it is available and leverages data to support continuous improvement; develops strong partnership with Strategic Operations teams, including the Assessment and Research, Analystics and Data teams


  • Strategically manages multiple grants and relationships with grant funders, as
    needed



What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:




  • Hold a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Education or related field, required. Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred.



  • Proven track record of success leading high performing academic systems and programs, along with operationalizing innovative strategies in an urban school district.



  • Experience building and developing high performing diverse teams, working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, and have experience working with multilingual learners and programs.



  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.


  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
