Overview: The AVP, Reinsurance will lead a team supporting reinsurance accounting and specific reinsurance operational functions across AmTrust Financial Services. The role interacts with our finance leadership team, underwriting, claims and actuarial departments to ensure the proper interpretation and recognition of complex reinsurance agreements. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the corporate reinsurance accounting team in performing close related tasks, including managing the departments close calendar, ensuring all close activities are identified and scheduled in accordance with closing priorities in adherence to the corporate close calendar.
  • Participate in the implementation and review of non-routine reinsurance transactions (loss portfolio transfers, adverse development covers, commutations, etc.)
  • For assigned treaties, oversee broker/reinsurer reporting and billing including statements/bordereau reviews.
  • Support the quarterly and annual U.S. Statutory and U.S. GAAP financial reporting for reinsurance balances and disclosures. Additionally, prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of analytics on reinsurance balances for presentation to senior management.
  • Support adherence to the company\'s framework of internal controls, including driving the design and execution of reinsurance related controls.
  • Work closely with financial controller group, internal and external audit on reinsurance transactions and reconciliation of reinsurance balances in the ledger.
  • Partner closely with the FP&A and actuarial department to work on reinsurance budgeting, forecasting, actuals and other analytics.
  • Prioritize and address various broad and individual projects, process improvement and transformation initiatives as they arise.
  • Position has high visibility at departmental senior management level and interacts with various levels of internal and external individuals and organizations, as well as with regional teams (reinsurance placement (ceded Re), finance controllers, actuarial, treasury, claims, legal, systems, etc.), product line management, reinsurance intermediaries and reinsurers.
  • Expected to create alignment through thought leadership, critical thinking, direction/context setting and stakeholder communications.
  • Manage staff by setting individual and team goals; with a strong focus on developing and mentoring others ensuring individuals gain in-depth knowledge of reinsurance accounting activities as it relates to premium, loss, funds held, deposit accounting, collateral, cash allocations and recoveries.

Experience


Extensive insurance industry experience; managing and leading others; increasing levels of responsibility in a large-scale organization.

The salary range for this role is $170k - $190k. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.

Qualifications: Qualifications
  • 12+ years insurance accounting experience with minimum 4 years working in a reinsurance department or 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in the reinsurance industry
  • Big 4 experience preferred
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload to meet assigned deadlines in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that highlights the individual\xe2\x80\x99s ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and third parties to maximize performance by improving current processes or implementing new processes as deemed necessary
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle GL preferred)
