Position #4237 - Parking and Transportation Specialist

**THIS POSITION IS NON-CLASSIFIED**

Shifts will vary depending on business need. Business hours are 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Monday- Friday) and 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Saturday).

DUTIES:

The function of the Parking and Transportation Specialist is to perform services essential to parking management, customer transport (pick-up and delivery), parking enforcement, motorist assistance, customer service, vehicle traffic control and other duties necessary in support of the Parking and Transportation\'s overall mission.

As Parking and Transportation Specialist, this position is responsible for the following:

CUSTOMER TRANSPORT

  • This position will follow all relevant safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations.
  • Arrange to pick up particular customers or groups on a regular schedule.
  • Provide passengers with assistance entering and exiting vehicles and help them with any luggage.
  • Pick up (and drop off) passengers at prearranged locations.
  • Communicate with dispatchers by radio or computer to exchange information and receive requests for passenger service.
  • Operate vehicles with specialized equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, to transport and secure passengers with special needs.
  • Assist handicapped or disabled customers in and out of the vehicle.
PARKING ENFORCEMENT VIA PATROL (Vehicle and on-foot)
  • Using License Plate Recognition equipment, this position is tasked with reviewing vehicles parked on campus for fee compliance.
  • Enter and retrieve information pertaining to vehicle registration, identification, and parking credential status, using hand-held computers.
  • Patrol an assigned area by vehicle or on foot to ensure public compliance with existing parking regulations.
  • When vehicles are not in compliance of established parking regulations, this position will issue warnings and citations to violators (as needed)
  • This position will install vehicle immobilization equipment to those vehicles deemed to have committed chronic rule infractions
  • Patrol campus grounds for parking infractions and other issues that impede ingress and egress routes.
PARKING CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Responds to customer calls for assistance and calls for service that involves parking areas or vehicles on campus property
  • Completes post-service reports as necessary.
  • These may include, but are not limited to, motorist assists, vehicle accidents, and vehicle immobilization removal.
MOTORIST ASSISTANCE
  • Responds to customer calls for jump start assistance when a customer\'s vehicle will not start and the vehicle is parked on campus property.
  • Responds to customer calls for tire changing assistance when a customer\'s vehicle has a flat tire and the vehicle is parked on campus property.
VEHICLE/EQUIPMENT SERVICEABILITY
  • Test vehicle equipment, such as lights, brakes, horns, or windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation. Maintain assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computers, radios, mobile printers, citation books, rain gear, tire-marking chalk, street cones and vehicle boots.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance, such as regulating tire pressure and adding gasoline, oil, and water.
  • Vacuum and clean interiors and wash and polish exteriors of automobiles.
  • Notify dispatcher and supervisor or full-time coordinator of vehicle problems.
DISPATCHING
  • On occasions, assist in the dispatching office.
  • Answer phone calls.
  • Send and receive radio communications.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
AND
  • One (1) year professional customer service experience. The experience listed must clearly demonstrate interacting with the public in person.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Those candidates with previous experience as a professional driver and/or ride share operator, are strongly encouraged to apply
  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience maintaining his/her composure when dealing with angry or irate customers
  • Those candidates with experience performing basic roadside automotive repair (flat tire change, jump-start) are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate/converse effectively with others (customers, peers and supervisors) in English.
SPECIAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT:
  • Minimum age is 18 years old.
  • Must have a valid and unencumbered Driver License
  • All positions with AHEC require a background check. YOU MUST submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Submission of your application provides AHEC authorization to run a background check.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR): The person selected for this position must have a driving record (an MVR) indicative of the following:
  • Not more than five (5) points assessed against motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two (2) years
  • Not more than ten (10) points on the seven year record
  • Demonstrated possession of a continually valid driver\'s license for the past two (2) years.
  • No DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 5 years

Salary & Benefits: Salary is $15.87 per hour ($33,000 per year). AHEC provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes 21 vacation and 15 sick days per year; medical and dental plans; life, disability and PERA retirement benefits.
