WHAT YOU\'LL DO

The Digital Product Organization (DPO) is a 1300+ person cross-functional product delivery, tech & engineering organization. It is comprised of 16 Product Portfolios, 120+ product squads and 5 centers of excellence, responsible for driving digitally product enablement for all internal BCG business functions (HR, Marketing, Legal, Risk, Finance, IT, etc). This organization was formed in 2020 as part of a full agile@scale transformation, sponsored by the CIO, CFO and COO and delivered by BCG\xe2\x80\x99s best-in-class Agile strategy and implementation consulting team. Each Product Portfolio is led by a dedicated Product Portfolio leader with direct alignment to the senior executive of their business function. A Product Portfolio is comprised of 3 \xe2\x80\x93 15 squads, each managing 1 or more products. This organization follows a consistent Agile operating model with standards and best practices designed and governed by the Agile COE.

As an Agile Coach Senior Director, you will directly report to the Head of the Agile COE, and will be responsible for setting and evolving the standards for \xe2\x80\x9chow\xe2\x80\x9d work is performed across the organization as the senior expert in business agility. To support the \xe2\x80\x9chow,\xe2\x80\x9d you will work with the Head of the Agile COE and senior leaders of the Digital Product Org to develop, share, and drive adoption of the agile resources, learning and leader toolkits. You will also be accountable for developing and co-owning a cross DPO backlog of agility improvements that will drive enterprise-level shifts in processes, behaviours or organizational structures. You will help the Digital Products Organization improve how it identifies, articulates, and monitors value delivered to the business. You will coach, mentor and drive behavioural upskilling and learning to the most senior leaders at BCG, including Senior Directors (SD), Executive Directors (XD), and Managing Partners and Directors (MDP) helping to further enable their agility while enabling the agility of the entire organization.

You will directly manage a team of highly specialized Agile Coaches and Scrum Leads who are deployed to Product Portfolios and Squads within the Digital Products Organization. As the expert in the agile domain, you will be expected to coach and develop the full cohort of Agile Coaches to elevate their knowledge and practices around agile ways of working, as well as guiding coaches around how best to deploy their expertise to influence change within the organization.

Business Value - Advise, diagnose, and implement enterprise changes to drive sustained business value within and between Product Portfolios and other CoEs:

Establish roadmaps and guardrails to inform \xe2\x80\x9chow\xe2\x80\x9d Product Portfolios collaborate to deliver value to the business while identifying dependencies and mitigating risk along the way

Coordinate with Product Portfolio Leadership to design and effectively manage interactions and interdependencies between Squads and other Product Portfolios
Evolve interaction models with the Product Portfolios, CoEs and the broader IT organization

Maintain and improve the Product Portfolios\xe2\x80\x99 interaction models to ensure effective governance and resource planning between teams and functions

Drive the design and continuous improvement of the planning cycle for Digital Product Teams (annual/quadmester)

Evolve the governance around planning and decision making to shift towards agile principles

Co-own the Agile COE\xe2\x80\x99s planning cycle by setting annual/quadmester objectives and key results

Own, deliver and rollout transformation interventions centrally as part of the COE

Mobilize spare capacity of coaches to support and sustain those change efforts

Lead Agile Coaches within your span of control to drive proactive coaching plans for their respective Product Portfolios in line with the overall Agile COE remit and strategic outcomes

Partner with change management to create Agile communication for all org levels to grow buy-in and adoption

Support the Head of the Agile COE in evolving roadmap, strategy, and operating guardrails for Agile ways of working at BCG, working closely with Senior Leadership (L1 and L2) to align strategic objectives

People - Mentor, motivate and develop coaches in the Agile CoE and senior leaders across the Digital Products Organization:

Set direction and priorities to inform the work of your teams together with the Head of the Agile COE, based on the organization\xe2\x80\x99s overall business priorities and coaching needs

Nurture members of the Agile Digital Products Office and actively help to develop their expertise

Manage, provide feedback, and develop members to help improve their knowledge and better serve the Squads and Product Portfolios they support

Identify training and learning opportunities and build capability development plans accordingly

Work with our Managing Directors and Partners (incl. CIO, CFO, CRO, COO, etc.) to coach them on agile leadership principles and techniques and catalyze the adoption of agile ways of working throughout the organization beyond existing remit

Coaching and influencing leaders to approach work with an agile mindset, resolve blockers and empower teams to deliver their full potential

Work with Product Portfolios to identify and resolve challenges and changes needed within the Agile model and non-technical processes

Be a clear, confident voice to advocate for agile ways of working across the Digital Products Organization in upskilling capabilities or communicating learnings to large audiences

Practices \xe2\x80\x93 Build, teach and role model BCG\xe2\x80\x99s Agile methodology, standards, and practices:

Refresh and iterate the Agile Playbook for consistent definition and application of Agile practices, interactions, and ceremonies

Drive continued adoption and evolution of Jira, Jira Align and additional emergent tools

Refine, enhance, and deliver Agile training for members of the Digital Product Organization and stakeholders.

Build a culture of agile advocacy across the Digital Product Teams

Champion continual adoption of Agile & agile maturity of teams via agile maturity assessment and facilitate measurement and monitoring of Agile (e.g., Agile Transformation Board)

Activate & reinforce Chapter approach; oversee the Product Portfolio Leadership communities

Support design and oversee set up of new squads, Product Portfolios, and chapters

Stay on top of relevant developments and innovations in agile and lean, both internally and externally

Sharing relevant insights and developments in agile and learn with your teams and other senior stakeholders across the organization

Create & facilitate agile collaborative groups, working groups, communities of practice, & enterprise-wide initiatives in Agile

Introduce adjacent methodologies or approaches to augment existing coaching toolkit (e.g., design thinking, human centered design)

Maintain your own technical knowledge through learning and continuous improvement

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)
  • 12+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a business agile coaching/mentoring and/or leadership role, including:
  • Significant work experience playing an active leadership role in scaled agile transformations
  • Demonstrated experience of coaching organizations and senior leaders on agile best practices
  • Demonstrated experience of having built agile capabilities within complex, de-centralized organizations at the start of their agile journeys
  • 6+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of large scaled agile coaching experience \xe2\x80\x93 knowledgeable across several Agile frameworks including Spotify model and Kanban
  • Experience of working in consulting preferred
  • Deep understanding of business agility frameworks, practices and key behaviors to organizational success
  • Deep understanding of agile software delivery, the path to production and other operational aspects
  • Deep understanding of technology enabled business transformation, Digital transformation, Organizational transformation, delivering enterprise-level IT and Digital projects
  • Exceptional communications and senior stakeholder management skills
  • Certification requirements (preferred):
  • Certified Business Agility Coach (e.g., ICAgile Certified Professional in Business Agility Foundations)
  • Certified Enterprise Coach (e.g., IC Agile - Enterprise Agile Coaching)
  • Certified Agile Transformations Coach (e.g., IC Agile \xe2\x80\x93 Coaching Agile Transformation)
  • Qualified Agile Coach (certification in Scaled Agile methodologies, e.g., SAFe, a plus)
  • Qualified Leadership Coach

As an Agile Coach Senior Director, you will work alongside the Head of the Agile COE, other Agile Coaches, Product Portfolio Leaders, Governance& Funding Director, Digital Talent Senior Director, Agile Tooling Product Owner, Senior (MDP) Sponsors and Stakeholders within IT and across all business functions
