What You Will Do

The Engineering and Technology Maturation (ETM) Program Office has two openings for R&D Engineer 2 with an emphasis in aerospace engineering. The ETM Program Office directs research and matures technologies to improve America\'s ability to design, qualify, and certify nuclear weapons. The main mission areas of responsibility are 1) providing capabilities for an agile and responsive nuclear stockpile that will survive the complex environments encountered during the lifetime of a nuclear weapon; and 2) developing agile, affordable, assured, and responsive technologies and capabilities for nuclear stockpile sustainment and modernization. We are seeking individuals interested in rapid prototyping efforts involving high explosives, rockets, flight testing, and remote and in-situ sensing systems for national security missions. In this role you will apply state-of-the-art engineering principles, techniques, methods, and tools to provide solutions to R&D projects that include the design, development, fabrication, assembly, testing, and fielding of integrated systems containing analog and digital electronic subsystems.

Project Management:

You will need experience in project management to include the development of work plans, cost estimates, and project status reports. You will be responsible for meeting schedule milestones, staying within budget, and completing work scope and deliverables as planned.

Teamwork/Communications:

To succeed in this role, you must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You must be able to produce and present materials for technical reports, documents (including drawings and schematics), and presentations. You must have the ability to convey information to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical) with effective messaging to ensure understanding.

Leadership:

You will lead the development of engineered systems from inception through field testing in support of national security missions. You will lead collaboration on technical designs and their implementation, both with internal and external colleagues, and interact at the project, team, and group level. You must have demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to team members.

Education/Experience: This position requires a bachelor\'s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum job requirements, candidates with expanded qualifications in any of the following areas are viewed favorably:

\xc2\xb7 Experience with delivering hardware from clean-sheet design to fielded operations.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with computer-based data-acquisition systems to acquire and analyze data during experiments (e.g., LabView and/or MATLAB).

\xc2\xb7 Expertise in signal processing, data acquisition technologies, and RF communication systems.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated modeling and programming experience with Python, Matlab, C, or C++.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with systems engineering, field testing, and design of experiments

\xc2\xb7 Formulating work plans, identifying project resources, and executing R&D projects

\xc2\xb7 Experience handling classified hardware and information.

\xc2\xb7 Active Q/SCI clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
