About this opportunity

The R&D Engineer II, 3D Printing is an early-to-mid career position responsible for leading & executing projects focused on new product design and development lines within the Advanced 3D Printing Technology Team (ADV3NT). As a 3D Printing R&D Engineer, you will be a key member who optimizes product design alongside a highly multidisciplinary team working on 3D printing systems, process, and materials.

In this role, you will\xe2\x80\xa6

  • Leverage 3D technologies, software-platforms, and biomechanical principles to incorporate novel orthodontic solutions into design.
  • Connect product outcomes back to the inputs and outputs of advanced 3D manufacturing processes.
  • Define procedures to evaluate real-world product performance and conduct bench top testing in accordance with FDA/ISO guidelines.
  • Supplement functional performance testing with metrological analysis and/or material characterization.
  • Coordinate the materials involved in experimental testing in the product development lifecycle.
  • Organize and investigate root cause analysis on complex data sets.
  • Utilize statistical tools to formulate, test, and interpret hypotheses.
  • Communicate project status and present findings to all levels of stakeholders.
  • Drive internal/external professional\xe2\x80\x99s feedback into the next waves of product development.
  • General engineering support in Product Research & Development (PR&D).
In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll need \xe2\x80\xa6
  • BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering with 2+ years of directly related experience in product development and research (other scientific disciplines considered); or
  • MS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering with 0 to 6 months of directly related experience in product development and research (other scientific disciplines considered).
Relevant qualifications & skills
  • Comfort with test method development and documentation best practices in regulated industries.
  • Ability to generate creative solutions and iteratively evaluate concepts, designs, or methods.
  • Knowledge and experience of additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge/experience in orthodontics, dental/medical device industry, and/or biomechanics.
  • Experience with metrological tools and outputs for example, computed tomography, microscopy, etc.
  • Experience with mechanical or biomechanical equipment and/or material characterization techniques.
  • Experience with functional scripting, and/or programming for engineering (e.g. Python, C++/C, MATLAB)
  • Experience experimental statistical analysis and FEA analysis.
  • Thoroughness, attention to detail, problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, will working proactively and effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong, oral, written, and visual communication skills. Can conclude findings concisely and effectively.
  • A team player: supporting, learning from, and training all tiers of team members.

Primary Location Base Salary Range: $92,700 to $108,200 USD

Base salary ranges are a guideline used to determine appropriate pay. Placement depends on the individual skills and experience level of a candidate plus the total compensation and equity across team members. For other locations outside of the primary location, the base salary range will be adjusted geographically. For field Sales roles, the salary listed is the base pay only and does not include the applicable commission plan. A cost of living adjustment may be added to base pay for higher cost areas in the U.S. Our internship hourly rates are a standard pay determined based on the position and your location, year in school, degree, and experience.
