The Idaho Department of Lands has an opening for a Wildland Fire Dispatch Coordinator.
This position is a part-time .67 FTE benefited position located at the Coeur d\'Alene Interagency Dispatch Center.

Example of Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Resolves the full scope of irregular problem situations encountered when performing a wide range of interrelated, nonstandard assignments pertaining to fire program management activities.
  • Plans and provides critical logistical support information to the supervisor for successful implementation of fire management program activities. Makes recommendations concerning the efficient use of available resources.
  • Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunication systems
  • Organizes and reviews completed records of all orders placed and actions taken to ensure adherence to established operating procedures.
  • May coordinate aviation dispatch operations. (e.g., aircraft capabilities and limitations, flight planning, aviation safety)
  • Provides assistance on problems encountered by lower level dispatch personnel.
  • Records and maintains communication logs.
  • May coordinate and may assist with fire training and orientation.
  • Reviews internal operating procedures and systems, makes recommendations for improvement, and updates/develops operating plans and mobilization guides.
  • Follows dispatch manual instructions and review resource available to fulfill resource order Decisions have parameters and guidelines in place.
  • Working long shifts during high fire danger period of the fire season, working weekends and holidays can be expected.

Experience:
  • Conducting and documenting fact-finding interviews; reading, writing, and speaking English proficiently; reading and interpreting detailed information; entering and retrieving data from a computer.
  • Reviewing documents for compliance with established procedures; using a computer to enter and retrieve information.
  • Physical ability to hear and understand messages received in person, or transmitted via radio, computer and/or telephone.
  • Ability to use multi-channel radios, multi-line phones, computers, keep accurate records, and read maps.
  • Experience with emergency management or wildland fire dispatch.
Supplemental Information

Desirable Qualifications
Experience:
  • Qualified as a National Interagency Incident Management System (NIIMS) Initial Attack Dispatcher (IADP) and/or Aircraft Dispatcher (ACDP).
  • Experience with fire-related computer applications: IROC and WildCAD.

Overtime/Vacation Accrual/FLSA:
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) code for this position is Covered (C) Based on the FLSA code for this position, compensatory time will accrue at a rate of 1.5 hours for each 1 hour of overtime worked. Compensatory time off may be provided in lieu of overtime cash compensation. Vacation accrual is based on the FLSA code and accrual rates can be found at: (Exception: Employees engaged in Fire Suppression activities for which overtime hours are earned will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the hourly rate for each one hour of overtime worked. Payment will be made on the regular pay date corresponding to the pay period in which the overtime work occurred.)

We also provide assistance to landowners to manage their forest lands, work with communities to plant trees in urban settings, help keep working forests working through the Forest Legacy Program, and work with many partners to promote healthy forests on a landscape level. IDL also is the administrative arm of the Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
