Job Summary VP Political Sales is responsible for overseeing and driving political sales and sales strategy for Effectv and accountable for achieving the annual political ad sales revenue goal, a significant portion of company revenue. The VP creates business strategy to focus on strengths, competitive advantage, and differentiation. Incorporates broad knowledge to address complex, unusual, and critical issues. Develops long-term plans that impact the achievement of business results. Builds and maintains customer relationships and strategic external partner relationships including Ampersand and Comcast Government Affairs. Key to role is driving change transformation and strategy execution to achieve specific business results.



Core Responsibilities:

Drives Revenue Strategy and Sales/Business Results:

  • Establishes and ensures the execution of short- and long-term Political advertising revenue goals and operates to support the achievement of overall company revenue and budget goals.
  • Works with a \xe2\x80\x9cGM \xe2\x80\x9cmindset to develop and own the annual Political sales action plan, budget targets, and go to market strategy working in in close partnership with Ampersand counterpart and partner department leaders.
  • Works closely with senior management and finance on the development of the political sales budget, preparing and providing regular forecast updates on category, market conditions, and business performance.
  • Collaborates with partner teams to develop and promote sales narratives about the Effectv value proposition and differentiation from competitors, to increase overall share and influence audience and multi-screen buying.
  • Considers and recognizes profitability and revenue potential of strategies and business opportunities.
  • Develops and presents strategy and new business opportunities to senior management.
  • Owns upper-funnel sales process creating and driving at National Consultant, Committees, and agency level; Establishes and maintains regular contact with key clients, owning c-level relationships with partners and political ad agencies in DC, LA and elsewhere as appropriate.
  • Negotiates complex deals at top management level that affect major aspects of advertising sales division performance. As needed pursues and closes difficult and/or strategic accounts.
  • Drives meetings with consultants, agencies, Government Affairs and Ampersand to outline value proposition and identify opportunities within Comcast footprint; builds and maintains relationship and partnership with Corporate Government Affairs, with a focus on DC and Philadelphia teams.
  • Manages non-Ampersand Political Rep partner relationship inclusive of contract terms and commission review.
  • Acts as lead stakeholder with L2 political Voter Data vendor as well as AdImpact political insights vendor inclusive of negotiations in partnership with Comcast Procurement and Media Insights
  • Manages US Chamber of Commerce partnership along with corporate Government Affairs team.
  • Leads AAPC and C&E partnerships negotiating conference sponsorships/capabilities presentation.
  • Represents the Company in the ad sales business community and liaises as needed to represent political sales with various vendors and stakeholders.
  • Maintains knowledge of marketplace needs, expectations, and practices through regular connection with customers, competitive monitoring, and regular connections with counterparts from Spectrum and Cox to discuss marketplace and customary practice initiatives (i.e. - Programmatic, Battleground Sys Code, etc.)
  • Manages development and dissemination of training for team and key stakeholders around legal requirements and policy in partnership with Comcast legal.
  • Works with Business Operations to manage compliance of FCC and internal public file; partners with Political Directors to cascade protocols to entire team.
  • Collaborates with partners across yield, campaign management, and sales development to build and update rate cards, plan, and manage stewardship needs, and ensure sales has compelling and effective sales packages, solutions, and collateral materials.

Inspires and leads Political team to achieve business goals. Clearly communicates strategy, expectations, and actively manages team, activities, and priorities to ensure success.

Coaches, manages Political team to ensure department and overall Effectv business goals and objectives are achieved. Develops talent and acts swiftly to address any gaps in performance.

Proactively engages with team members across levels and builds cross-functional partnership with peer leaders and partners in other departments. Thinks and acts cross functionally to identify opportunities, address challenges, and develop solutions.

Professional Experience & Qualification:
  • Passion for and knowledge of the category
  • Demonstrated success in the following core competencies: Visionary thinking complimented by shaping and executing strategy; business acumen to include functional depth and breadth within sales and strong financial and budgetary skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills coupled with the ability to lead change.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that will contribute to team development and in working with other stakeholders including governmental agencies and senior management.
  • Prior management experience and experience leading teams, developing and coaching talent

Generally requires 5-10 years of experience in advertising sales management, marketing, government affairs or related field.

Salary:

Pay Range: This job can be performed in New York City, with a Pay Range of $267,245.20 USD - $400,867.80 USD

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.

Targeted Commission: $183,750
