SC State University 1890 Research & Extension seeks a multimedia specialist (videographer/editor) whose visual storytelling makes brands stand out, all while contributing to a team of researchers and extension agents whose passionate work is helping to make a difference in the lives of South Carolinians.

The SC State University 1890 Research & Extension Program, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides an important public service to rural and underserved families and farmers needing access to the latest research-based science in sustainable agriculture practices, financial management, business development and nutrition information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the director of marketing and communications, the multimedia journalist:

Captures video content, most often as sole \xe2\x80\x9cbackpack journalist,\xe2\x80\x9d able to produce compelling stories, focusing strongly on the human feature element as well as the impact that SC State 1890 programs have contributed to improving quality of life and raising the standard of living.

Develops, coordinates, implements the overall concepts and content of the video that will bring SC State 1890 brand to life.

Schedules and interviews sources, and films in ambient scenes/locations that further promote and maintain the brand.

Writes, edits text and scripts, procures visuals, music, narrators; obtain necessary copyright permissions; coordinate production; produce and edits video; integrates text and graphic overlays; sets up and markets final product.

Engages in all components of the production process to produce multimedia content.

Develops, organizes and manages a library of assets of completed videos, B-roll footage and images.

Shoots and edits photos and video imagery to support SC State University 1890 Research & Extension\'s brand marketing.

Maintains equipment inventory and field and production schedules.

Ensures that the 1890 brand standards are met across all platforms.

Remains updated on technological advancement in videography, photography, outreach, multi-media and social media.

Attends events, programs and activities on campus and in the service regions to capture raw videos and interviews for use in marketing and other communications materials.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate\'s degree in audio/visual communications, journalism, graphic design, film or video or related field and three to five years of professional experience in graphic design
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with video storyboarding, shooting and editing, posting to social media and websites.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites with an emphasis on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro or non-linear editing systems such as Final Cut of AVID Media Composer.
  • Knowledge of lighting, composition, camera/lens combinations, theory and techniques of modern digital photography, cinematography and audio.
  • Working experience with Mac (IOs) computer systems and proficiency Microsoft Office 356 Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Publisher).
  • Knowledgeable of best export/encoding practices for delivery across a wide range of channels: high-resolution still photography for print, HD/UHD video for broadcast, and optimized video and stills for social media including YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive attitude and approach to problem-solving and addressing client feedback
  • Ability to take creative direction and feedback in a constructive manner
  • Occasional weekend, evening work and travel required.
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds frequently
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in audio/visual communications, journalism, graphic design, film or video or other related discipline and three years of related experience
  • Experience working with photography and use of DSLR camera
