Job Description


Viterbo University invites applications for the role of Vice President of Advancement. The Vice President of Advancement serves as the chief development officer for the university and is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of fundraising and alumni engagement for the university.

The vice president of advancement reports directly to the president and is a key member of the university\'s senior leadership and serves as a member of the president\'s cabinet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the advancement team, working towards common goals and supporting the staff in their individual professional growth and team development.
  • Advise and collaborate with the university president and the Board of Trustees to plan and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Lead the institutional advancement division\'s efforts to plan, coordinate and implement a comprehensive development plan to raise funds for annual, capital and endowment purposes.
  • Ensure that philanthropy is carried out in keeping with Viterbo\'s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Set fundraising goals and ensure appropriate metrics are in place to measure performance and progress towards goals.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and attention to detail with proven experience. working with donor management system software and reporting.
  • Build a sustainable major gifts-focused fundraising culture.
  • Lead annual and capital campaigns.
  • Advance a culture of giving and engagement within the university.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a major gifts program.
  • Identify and manage division budget and resources, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources to advance institutional advancement.
  • Identify and implement goals and best practices for the division and division staff that are in line with the university\'s strategic plan.
  • Serve as a member of university task forces, advisory committees, and councils.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned.
General Requirements & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a strategic, results-oriented, and visionary leader who understands, and has a passion for, the mission of Viterbo University.

The University seeks applicants who have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Master\'s degree and 10 years of supervisory experience;
  • Extensive experience in board relations, fundraising (including capital and endowment campaigns), alumni affairs, grants, planned giving, and corporate relations.
  • Experience with university systems, programs, and procedure;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; and
  • Exceptional relationship building skills including ability to empower the Board of Trustees, advancement division staff, and other volunteer fundraisers in a way that achieves concrete results.
