This role is crucial for ensuring the reliable operation, flight readiness, and field maintenance of UAV systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge, excellent piloting skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve issues in both laboratory and field settings.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers located in Eastern Europe and must be willing to learn existing technical approaches, standards, and methodologies from the core team. Additionally, candidates should be prepared for business trips to Eastern Europe as part of this role.
Responsibilities:
Assemble, configure, and calibrate UAV systems (both fixed-wing and multirotor)
Design and document test plans and flight scenarios based on mission or system requirements
Conduct ground and flight tests to validate system performance and reliability
Tune and configure flight controllers (Betaflight, ArduPilot, iNav) for various UAV platforms
Identify, test, and integrate electronic components such as flight controllers, ESCs, cameras, antennas, and telemetry modules
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electronic, or software issues in the field
Analyze flight logs using ground control software and onboard logging systems to identify performance issues or anomalies
Evaluate test outcomes, detect potential shortcomings, and propose improvements to enhance system functionality and reliability
Maintain UAV readiness in field environments, including pre-flight inspections and quick repairs
Support iterative improvements to field repair procedures, configuration protocols, and operational checklists
Understand basic principles of radio communication, including signal propagation, interference, and antenna setup
Read and follow technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and integration guides
Communicate effectively with engineers, software developers, and technical teams in Europe to ensure configuration consistency and technical alignment
Organize tasks and workflows independently in dynamic testing and deployment environments
Skills and Experience:
Education & Experience
Understanding of circuitry, connectors, and soldering work
Technical education in aviation, radio electronics, robotics, or related fields
Experience in drone racing or FPV competitions
Flight & Simulation
Minimum of 80 hours on drone flight simulators
Minimum 140 hours flight hours on multirotor
Proven ability to operate at least one UAV type (fixed-wing or quadcopter) confidently
Preferred: ability to operate both fixed-wing and multirotor UAVs in real conditions
Configuration & Software
Full setup experience of a drone system (from hardware build to flight readiness)
Configuration experience with at least one major UAV software platform: Betaflight, ArduPilot, or iNav
Understanding of flight tuning parameters and their effect on behavior
Diagnostics & Field Repair
High ability to perform UAV troubleshooting and repairs in field environments
Experience with log analysis from ground stations or onboard UAV systems
