The Tatkon Center for New Students supports first-year and transfer students in their transition to Cornell and creates a vibrant and robust first-year experience. The transition to university life takes time, and we are dedicated to providing programming and services throughout the first year at the Tatkon Center for New Students. Student staff and volunteers have the opportunity to engage in leadership roles as they assist new students in their college transition.

The Temporary Program Assistant for the Tatkon Center for New Students serves as the front-line staff member for all stakeholders that interact with the office, including new students, families, and administrators. This position assists the department with logistics for Tatkon programming, and supports the overall administrative function of the unit. The Program Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Director and Assistant Directors, managing multiple calendars, monitoring progress on various projects, and assisting with correspondence and general office management duties. As the front-facing staff member for the office, this individual is instrumental to representing Tatkon Center in a professional, service-oriented manner.

*Pay range: $23.00-$24.50*

  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills, to effectively manage all aspects of the operations of a busy, student-facing office at the university.
  • Drive to take initiative and come at tasks in a proactive manner to meet the ever-changing and unique needs of the Tatkon Center for New Students.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree and 2 - 4 years of relevant experience, with responsibilities in office management, managing projects, budget management, program support, or related experiences; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a consistent professional and courteous service
  • Assume responsibility for, and take leadership in performing multiple, concurrent projects and meeting tight deadlines in a fast paced, ever changing, flexible environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including website development experience as well as with a variety of software programs such as: Campus Groups, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Qualtrics.
  • Uses sound judgment in in-person and electronic communications, often involving diverse constituencies from on and off campus, in sensitive, confidential, controversial or highly visible issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree and/or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated success in event programming and planning.
  • Marketing and communications experience, especially in a college or student setting.
  • The ability to trouble-shoot and use creativity when addressing issues and seeking solutions.
  • Familiarity with transition/needs of new students, and/or interest in working with college-age populations.
