Job Description


The Technical Support Specialist, Clinical Oncology Research in UNC Lineberger Clinical Data Operations (CDO) provides frontline support for approximately 350+ users of the clinical research management system OnCore and the electronic data capture system Advarra EDC. The successful administration of these systems is critical to 21CFR Part 11 compliant reporting to the FDA, reliable research data for oncology clinical research publications, the strategic integration of research systems to operationalize research, and robust reporting to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other funders.

The Technical Support Specialist, Clinical Oncology Research is responsible for troubleshooting and resolution of a variety of technical problems, managing user access and training, and supporting data quality and reporting to the NCI. LCCC Clinical Data Operations is a highly collaborative team environment. Team members are expected to work independently to resolve issues and meet time-sensitive deadlines. The Technical Support Specialist, Clinical Oncology Research will perform other duties as assigned and may occasionally work nights and weekends.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Masters or Bachelors and 0-2 years experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Bachelor\'s degree in computer science, MIS or information technology related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

Ability to work independently

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Strong organizational skills

Strong problem solving, analytic and troubleshooting skills

Proven ability to communicate complex processes and topics to end-users in an understandable manner

Ability to discern when situations require escalation, or need to be brought to the attention of management/supervisor

Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently

Excellent Microsoft Office suite skills and facility with advanced functions (e.g., for Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Readiness to learn new skills, and the ability to identify pertinent continuing education to support the requirements of this position and the evolving technical environment
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The ideal candidate will have

Experience supporting clinical research

Broad knowledge of OnCore clinical trials management system and Advarra EDC Experience

Experience with SQL, Jasper Reports, Oracle and relational database designs

Experience with Tableau, Sigma or other dashboard reporting programs

Experience with Visio

Experience in teaching non-technical staff one-on-one or in small group setting

Ability to convey learning content clearly and succinctly in a manner that engages learners and improves retention rates

Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods
