Information Services is the central IT department supporting all divisions of the Metropolitan Council. Our 140 team members provide technology, practices and innovative solutions that enable the core services of the Council.

How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

The Systems Engineer 3 - Infrastructure is a senior level position responsible for all aspects of the Council\'s enterprise computing systems including planning, testing, implementation and support. The ideal candidate will have system administration experience in Microsoft Azure, On-premises (On-Prem) infrastructure, and automation. The position will work as part of a team, designing, building, integrating and supporting systems that meet the METC technology needs. This position will solve problems at a high level and use their extensive knowledge to help set the future direction of the network systems at the Metropolitan Council.

What you would do in this job

  • Administers multiple hardware and software functions that include design, configuration, installation, monitoring, tuning, systems configuration, and release planning and change management
  • Responsible for leading problem identification, resolution, proactive problem management, and root cause analysis of system failures
  • Coordinates appropriate service outage and recovery communications through the IS Service Desk.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

High school diploma or GED AND nine (9) years of experience in the design, installation, operation, and troubleshooting of windows server operating systems including Azure.

Note: Highest completed degree in the following majors: Systems Administration, Systems Engineering and Design, Systems Security or a related field will count towards the minimum nine (9) years of required work experience.
  • Associates degree counts as two years of experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree or higher counts as four years of experience
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • AZ-104 certification
  • Experience leading/managing system architecture related projects
  • Experience with the following technologies and software:
  • Cloud Server Administration preferably Azure
  • Microsoft servers
  • Active Directory
  • VMware/Hyper-V
  • Microsoft Visio including the use of automation
  • Experience working and collaborating in a diverse, multi-cultural, and inclusive environment
What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
  • Knowledge and advanced understanding of Microsoft server Operating Systems
  • Knowledge and advanced understanding of detached storage solutions
  • Strong understanding of overall information security best practices
  • Ability to provide great quality customer service
  • Problem solving skills across multiple domains and servers
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, business units and vendors
  • Ability to implement corrective actions
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Skilled with managing and configuring virtualized hosts for Hyper-V and/or VMWare
