Job Description


The Sustainability Program Lead and Safety Coordinator is a dual role responsible for the management and oversight of all sustainability and safety initiatives at Team Penske\xe2\x80\x99s race shop and other facilities. The main focus of the role will be in the area of safety management.

In the sustainability role, the duties will include data collection and tracking of all emissions sources and planning and communication of relevant initiatives. This role will work closely with the Penske Corporate VP of Sustainability and other Sustainability Program counterparts to achieve the Penske Corporate initiative of reducing, eliminating, and offsetting the entire carbon footprint of the business.

In the safety role, the coordinator will be responsible for tasks related to creating and maintaining a safe workplace as well as administrative needs for recordkeeping, inspections, permits and reports. The coordinator will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to occupational health and safety, as well as environmental laws and regulations. The Safety Coordinator will collaborate with management, employees, and stakeholders to identify risks and hazards and develop strategies to minimize or eliminate them and develop safety training and environmental best practices.

Sustainability Responsibilities:

  • Work with Team Penske operations, departments, series, partners, vendors, and supply chains on environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement environmental sustainability initiatives throughout the race shop and other facilities.
  • Identify, define, validate, and prioritize sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage tracking and measurement of sustainability efforts.
  • Interpret data, synthesize findings, write reports, and make actionable recommendations based on market research and data analysis.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership within respective business units and departments.
  • Lead Team Penske Sustainability Council presentation and communications.
  • Oversee documentation collection and submission for sustainability certifications.
  • Understand and integrate industry trends and competitive landscape as it applies to current and/or future initiatives.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities:
  • Be the in-house subject matter expert for all safety and environmental needs.
  • Manage the SDS program by organizing and maintaining the SDS system, and train employees on the requirements of safe usage and handling of chemicals based on SDS instructions.
  • Act as a resource to managers for determining and developing departmental/facility-specific needs, including researching products prior to purchase to evaluate and recommend the best products and procedures.
  • Manage waste programs, hazardous and non-hazardous, by identifying waste streams and reviewing shipping documents for correctness.
  • Develop practices to minimize and manage waste.
  • Identify safety issues and unsafe practices and develop a course of action to address those issues.
  • Manage industrial hygiene program through testing and develop plans to address issues.
  • Develop safety training, procedures and policies.
  • Manage employee safety training programs (annual and periodic) by identifying needs and conducting employee training.
  • Assist with accident response, investigation, and corrective action plans.
  • Assist with the worker\xe2\x80\x99s compensation program through reports and record keeping (i.e. OSHA 300 log, etc.).
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree from an accredited university/college, with concentration in sustainability, safety, environmental, or another science-based program, or equivalent experience with certification(s) from nationally recognized safety and/or environmental institutions.
  • 1-3 years of experience in sustainability, project management or operations/logistics.
  • 1-3 years of experience in safety management or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with general industry standards relating to sustainability, safety, and environment.
  • Passion for sustainability, safety, and environmental initiatives.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Innovative thinker and self-starter.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Able to manage complex processes and multi-task.
  • Result oriented and creative.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willing to learn new skills.
  • Able to be resilient and problem-solve while still attending to the longer-term goals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint.
  • Able to work in a manufacturing environment with multiple distractions.
  • Able to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
  • Willing to travel on an infrequent basis.
